Player movements for Shute Shield 2014

Well said, Done that! Players change clubs for many reasons. I get annoyed when people imply there things happening that they know about but won't reveal. This was the journalistic style of a recently retired rugby "expert" who used to do this every week in his column. If they're not prepared to...

Intruder, you could get a job at New Idea! Either tell the story or say nothing.

Very hard to find fault with players who chase the $s if they're not able to crack a S15 contract. Especially if the Wicks are not paying anyone anything. A pity though that the progress made this year may well be undone by guys like Samu and Lautolo leaving.

3rd tier is back in 2014 [Discontinued]

I note this morning that there is talk again of moving the mid year inbound test window to after the end of the S15 and adding an extra test to the calendar as the ARU needs the income. I know I said I wasn't going to comment any further until the ARU tells us their plans but I will just add one...

I've decided I'll wait until the ARU decides to tell the people who pay at the gate what they've signed off on before commenting any further. Discussing it now is like trying to predict what an incoming government will do compared to what they said they'd do during the election campaign ;)

I was trying to make the point that money talks for many of the players you're talking about. Unless the money on offer is worthwhile they will continue to go where they've gone before. Don't forget the intro of the Rebels and Force into the Super was supposed to stop players going elsewhere as...

You may be right, but there was income from TV, sponsors, sale of merchandise and gate receipts and I thought all of that went to the ARU who then subsidised the clubs, but my memory's not what it used to be!

One of the problems the ARC business model had (and other suggested comps have also had) was that the ARC clubs expected the players to be "full time professionals" for the brief period of the competition but they obviously couldn't pay them enough to live on for the rest of the year. I'll be...

I agree that we need to wait to see what the plan is as the ARU haven't bothered to tell anyone yet, including the clubs. But they have decided to go ahead anyway! I'm also concerned that the financing has come partially from getting rid of the Sydney and Brisbane academies. How is that a...

Interesting that the ARU has "signed off" on this but aren't meeting with the clubs until early December. Maybe the ARU has another source of players for their competition rather than from the clubs given that the timing of the competition is either going to mean we're back to a 1 round Shute...

    Galloping Greens

I've always thought it was strange that someone who never played a game of rugby union (as far as I know he only played league) ended up as defence coach. He may know how to tackle but I'd suggest positional play in defence is much more important in union than league and this is where most...

Given the poor opinion that many people have of player agents it's staggering that so many parents entrust the immediate future of their children to them when they leave school!

But how often will any of them be available to play?

The only thing missing at the Wicks is "superior facilities" (and money) ;)

What are the Wicks offering to entice these guys to change clubs?

I notice Matt Carraro has Randwick listed as his club also.

They would be great losses, but I guess that's the danger if you're not willing or able to pay players. We've been fairly active poaching players (eg from Penrith) in recent times too! Hopefully some benefactor with deep pockets will provide some enticement for them to stay at the Wicks --...

Long period (nearly 2 years?) to recover from the achilles injury and then a succession of hamstring problems I believe. He was Director of Rugby (whatever that is!) in 2012, but Luke Callen took on that role this year. I think he's been in light training most of this year.
