    RWC: Australia v Fiji - 23 September 16:45, Millenium Stadium(24 September 1:45 AEST)

It should be pointed out that Volavola left the Waratahs because he couldn't get a starting role. He certainly wasn't cut from the squad. He was considered a rising young player with excellent potential.

I'm sure the best option emerged in training.

I was surprised by Larkham and Cheika mixing up the halfback combinations. Genia was way out of form this year, but by all accounts he's made a return to form on the training field, which is excellent news. He's by far our best halfback when at his best. It's a shame that Quade hasn't broken...

Personally, I'd have picked more attacking wingers. But I'm an idiot. :-)

Meh. This is a very strong team defensively. Fiji will have a much harder task getting past us than they did against England.

    RWC: Australia v Fiji - 23 September 16:45, Millenium Stadium(24 September 1:45 AEST)

Absolutely. It's all a bit slow. Not many 80m tries will be scored.

Nah, it's a quality backline. The wingers are a bit slow but they're both excellent finishers. Great bench to come on and up the ante.

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

There was also absolutely nothing we should try and learn from Eddy about playing two sevens.

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

If they play the same way against Scotland as they did against South Africa, they should win. We'll know soon enough. It's on before the Wobs on Wednesday. The message of the weekend is that the gap between the minnows and the first-tier nations has narrowed considerably.

RWC: NZL v ARG (Wembley Stadium) Pool C

How ironic that Macaw is being booed! Rich-ly ironic. :-)

RWC: WAL v URU (Millenium) Pool D

Is that the start of a joke? But you're right! I meant to type Irishman. Doh.

RWC: WAL v URU (Millenium) Pool D

I thought it was very poor form, the Welsh commentator saying it was a good thing the Uruguayan player didn't take a dive. Talk about casual sterotyping.

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

Yeah mate, but they're actual numbers. I know this may seem like an outlandish idea, but maybe if you went to a match, or joined a club, you might see some rugby players? Take some time out from watching the cooking channel. All that mercury in the tuna is bad for the liver. Just sayin'. :)

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

Not as small as you think. Japan has the 4th largest number of registered rugby union players in the world. 12 professional teams. Been playing international rugby since 1912. Hosting the next world cup, it seems. You must've blinked and missed it. Easy to do when it's not on the cooking channel.

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

That's right, although they really want Japan to lose a game. Relying on 3 winning BPs to draw ahead while Japan get none (or 2 winning BPs plus points for and against) is a long shot. If Japan beat Scotland, the Boks' fate isn't in their own hands any more.

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

Here's a thing for anyone interested in betting. Japan is now in a good position to top Pool B. If they can beat Scotland then they're a favourite to do so. I just got on them at 29.00 to top the pool, which seems to be the wrong price after today's result. A technical investor could back them...

RWC: SAF v JAP (Brighton Stadium) Pool B

As wonderful as it is, this may have implications for the Wallabies, because it increases the chances of SA coming 2nd in pool D, which means that if we win pool A then we'll face them in QF4. But bugger it. :-)
  18. Groucho

RWC: ENG v Fiji (Twickenham) Pool A

I don't think 17.4 f says that at all. You left out the key word 'voluntarily'. That law was introduced to stamp out the tactic that emerged a few years back where the defending team would move away in unison to generate a truck-and-trailer penalty. There was nothing voluntary about yesterday's...
  19. Groucho

RWC: ENG v Fiji (Twickenham) Pool A

Yeah. The truck-and-trailer try and Marler boring in were as plain as day on replays. You'd have though the TMO would be all over a maul leading to a penalty try.
  20. Groucho

Why is Marto employed as a commentator?

Yeah that's the U.S. model for sports commentary teams, except they call the comedy-drivel person the 'color', slightly bizarrely. As in providing colour, not being an African-American. Kearns is actually quite funny, when he makes it obvious he's joking.
