    Melbourne Rebels 2011

Re: Rebels deadline ends, update here on what you hear. Has someone told the rebels they aren't playing in a golden oldes tournament? Biffo, are you still supporting the rebels?

They were crapping on the ABC Radio coverage tonight that if the tahs win by 14+ BP then we would be top of the table. Very stupid thing to say given the others have had the bye and we haven't. We aren't the best team in the comp, but we are in the top half and on the improve. Like all of the...

G&GR Waratahs Player of the Match (versus Cheetahs)

    3. Mumm 2. Horne 1. Barnes No bad tahs tonight and I feel dirty giving two backs points as I think it was our forwards who won us the game. But they hunted as a pack tonight and no one really stood out (which is good thing). The scrums were a bit bodgy so I have ruled out the front row, Alcock...

Tom Carter - love him, loath him or something in between?

Carter is neither the best Aus super rugby player nor the worst. He isn't even the worst tah back of 2010 (Anesi gets my vote). Carter plays a similar game to De Wett Barry - it wouldn't suit the Wobbs most of the time but might in some circumstances, e.g. a slushy NH EOYT tour game.

    Team versus Cheetahs

Hawko, I agree BB’s form is off but I see no benefit from resting him this weekend. If he can’t recover form playing at home against a weaker team like the cheetahs then he should be dropped. Conversely dropping him this weekend serves no purpose in my view, unless he has an injury which needs...

    Team versus Cheetahs

Your damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to resting players. But I am more from a bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush camp so I think they have picked the right team, even BB sookface. Failure to get a BP win this week puts much more pressure on the players...

    More pressing concerns...

The real pity here is that there is loads of league players aged >20 who aren't quite good enough for the NRL that have to settle for playing Jim Beam cup and other suburban league comps. I originally thought that a good portion of these would drift to union as a way of having pursuing a...

    Waratahs v Blues. Sydney.

Yep, I said this in my post straight after the game. My thinking underlying my comment this morning was that the obstruction penalties provided us with a circuit breaker at the time and partly deflated the momentum the blues had. So thats 2 games that the tahs bench has won us this year. Its...

    More pressing concerns...

I think thats right FP. Many (possibly all) successful sports have some sort of talent/success equalisation mechanism. One I like best is major league baseball in the US. They have a draft plus teams that spend more than their salary cap each year pay additional "tax" which goes straight to the...

    Waratahs v Blues. Sydney.

I'll have to do that Louie as I only saw it live and on replay at the ground. Not sure why you have brought Kearns into this??? Even leaving that decision aside, there was the unpunished late hit on Barnes (I think) after he kicked it, a massive forward pass from the blues in their own 22 early...

Whats the solution though? I am all for a strong two blues (and Emus for that matter) but how to make it happen?

    Team versus Cheetahs

I would only be making changes necessary due to injuries. We want to win against the cheetahs and ideally with a BP. As we found out lastyear, its just as important to do well against the bottom half of the ladder as against the top half. Hopefully we will be in a positon where the bench will...

    Force v Bulls. Perthfontein.

Im very happy as I tipped the tahs by 1-12 and the bulls by 1> 12.5 so my multi bet gets up!

    Waratahs v Blues. Sydney.

PS I was very concerned when P Waugh came off about who would lead the team around the park. There was even a penalty where no tah wanted to own up to being the captain. While I thought Wauigh had one of his best games of the year before he was injured, it was also very promising to see players...

    Waratahs v Blues. Sydney.

The turner try was a 14 point turn around, but the blues earlie try should have eben disallowed as Barnes was taken out and he was almost certain to tackle the blues player (Afoa?). I was very happy with the game and result. Not a perfect performance from the tahs by any means but it was a...
