    Waratahs 2018

Most importantly we need a defence coach. our attack this year, plus Beale, will win us the Aus conference on our ear, but the defence has to lift 1000%. As to players, we need locks, reserve props and a 13.

Wallabies v Fiji, 3pm Sat 10th June, AAMI Park, Melbourne

I enjoyed the game, both sides really playing rugby. Wallabies defence a real worry, Darkness would have put 50 on them today. The Fijian offloads tore us apart, and no-one is better at offloads than the AB's. Grey just isn't up to this. Good to see Folau back to form, showed why he is one of...

Regarding those tackle stats, while Hooper is up there on missed tackles, he's a mile ahead of anyone else on tackles made with 132, the next best are Tom Robertson with 88 and Tolu Latu with 81. Hooper's missed tackle percentage is 17%, whereas people like Foley, Folau, Horwitz and Simone are...

Rugby and the dismal failure of The Meat Machine

Ruptured left ACL, also now have severe osteoarthtritis in the right shoulder, surgeon said I need a new one, and that's about it for major ones. Plenty of stitches, muscle tears, cracked ribs and a few concussions.

If Dempsey returns to his pre-injury form, he should be 6 and Hanigan lock. Hanigan is young, he'll get heavier, besides which I haven't seen him getting knocked backwards all that much. We seem to be obsessed with ever bigger locks, and have way too many useless giants coming through. Some of...

Having said the above, Grey is the defence coach, it's his gig, and he should resign. Sure, Gibson has defended him publicly, as he should, I will always defend my staff in public, but privately I expect results and, if necessary, will 'free up their future'!

BJ, I would be interested in percentages there. On sheer numbers that's no doubt correct, but the likes of Hooper, Latu and Phipps probably attempt a hell of a lot more tackles than, say Foley or Simone, however I wouldn't mind betting they have a much higher percentage of missed tackles.

There have been years passed when I've called for Cooper over Foley, but I struggle to see how anyone who has watched them both this year could make that call.

I like the squad, but like many others would have Fardy in my squad. I think Dempsey is a good player, but lucky on this occasion. The guy I would specifically omit is Godwin, who's solid enough but really not shone for two years, either in Super rugby or NRC. Meakes as a like for like, or David...

Likewise I think Kuridrani will start, and after Cheika's comments last night Folau will start and Hunt will be on the bench. Apart from that I think you've nailed it KOB

    Waratahs 2018

While i have been very critical in the past, I didn't see many poor passes on Sunday from Phipps. What I did notice was how much slower Gordon was getting to the breakdown, with forwards often having to throw the pass from the scrum base. Don't want to be too harsh on Gordon, I think he's a...

Waratahs v Blues - Round 11, Saturday 6 May, Allianz Stadium

Okay, we've made our thoughts known on how terrible that was, but as we move on, are there any positives we can take from it? Well, here's my attempt: We won the second half 33-14 The lineout was fine, we won all our own throws and delivered clean ball. The scrum was roughly at parity, we didn't...

Waratahs v Blues - Round 11, Saturday 6 May, Allianz Stadium

First half I think one of the worst displays I have ever seen from a Waratahs side, just nothing good to say about them. Second half, still plenty of dumb mistakes, but glimpses also of just what could be. I think part of the difference was the injection of Skelton and Phipps. Phipps is getting...

    Waratahs 2017

I guess we'll see next weekend whether any progress has actually been made, or it was just that the Reds were even worse than the Tahs. There were certainly things to like on the weekend, however the passing and catching was still at 13c's level (and I apologise to any readers in the 13c's, that...

    Round 9: Waratahs v Kings

I hate to think what would have happened without Foley, he was directly involved in virtually every positive thing the Tahs did!

    Waratahs 2017

I really don't think the recruitment, or the private school, strong club dominance is at the root of the problem. As to recruitment, I watched the NRC pretty closely, and I don't think many of the stand-outs were overlooked by one franchise or another, and in fact some of the new recruits...

    Round 9: Waratahs v Kings

Hawko, pretty much agree with your run-on side, only comments are that Holloway needs to put in, if Robertson has second season syndrome Holloway has overdosed on it! I think Kellaway has been all right, I'd start him at 15. On the bench, Simone over Hegarty. Simone isn't there yet, but needs 10...

TBH, I have Beale on the bench for impact with 30 to go. Given that, it was either TK or Kerevi for 13, with the other missing out altogether (I also am keen to have Sefa come on late and do to a tired defence what he did to the Brumbies on Saturday), I went with TK for his better defence, but...
