    Brumbies 2018

Seems we've come through this period without any injuries, and Peni is eligible again. I've accepted that Lilo is a 10 and that means we need to start thinking about who plays at 12 next year. Should we be giving Peni a go there? I like the Muirhead-Speight-Banks back three a bit too much to...

Valetini has all the physical skills and seems to have the right mentality, but his technique isn’t great and his potential is directly tied to how much his technique develops. I don’t think it will develop that much after seeing him over these two years of NRC and Super level (at an age where...

Getting mad about people misspelling the name of a fringe player isn’t worth a page of posts.

John I. Dent Cup 2018 - ACT Premier Rugby

If there’s any justice, it’ll be Vikes and Royals in the top 2, Uni and Easts the others in the finals. Amazingly, we have 5 teams that have a realistic chance of winning the whole thing, and four different play styles between them! Edit: Expanding on what I mean by the styles: Royals and...

From a Wallabies perspective, I guess you can make some arguments for the benefits of the move. But it’s crazy talk to say we in Canberra are better off letting Melbourne get a replacement to equal (if not better than) Mafi because a young guy now gets opportunities. If Foley moved to Melbourne...

John I. Dent Cup 2018 - ACT Premier Rugby

In the first half, the Uni forwards were unstoppable. Their locks broke every first-time tackle they met, and then went another 5m after the next hit. Their backrowers were offloading like crazy. They couldn't lose a breakdown or a lineout. Meanwhile, the backline was gaining metres each run...

Naisarani leaving is a dick move and I'm surprised there are Brumbies fans who are okay with it.

Australia v Ireland, Sat 9th June @ 8.00pm, Suncorp Brisbane

Never doubted Kerevi’s technical tackling ability (see the Foley tackle), he clearly knows how, but a 13 also needs to know when and where, which has never been Kerevi’s strength. I get wanting to try someone other than Kuridrani with his current Super form, but surely it should have been Rona...

John I. Dent Cup 2018 - ACT Premier Rugby

A ton of unforced errors don't help: not straight lineout throws, missed breakdown cleanouts, dropped balls, etc. But I won't say its a fitness issue; even in the first game of the season, we played better in the last 20 than we did the first. I hate to go to intangibles, but it feels like a...

Does this do anything to downplay the murmurs of downsizing to three Aussie super teams?

Royals had a total collapse; anyone who saw the first round game knows how close they've come to this before.

I still think our best backrow is McCaffrey-Pocock-Naisarani. McCaffrey has shown enough this year for me to believe that he has the quality to deliver at this level; I get the poor form arguments, but I think there's a bit of a free pass for players this year when our head coach is this bad...

We've now lost five on the bounce. Last time this happened was 2011, and again in the middle of 2005. The only time we've lost six in a row as back in 1998. Meanwhile, the next worst run of games in the comp is a two loss streak. It's like there's still a competitive streak in every team but ours.

Was at Queanbeyan; Whites scored four tries to the Royals three, but Pedro also kicked three penalties and two conversions, while the Queanbeyan fullback missed all four conversions and a penalty attempt. If everyone kicked their sticks, Queanbeyan would have won by 1.

I know it's hindsight, but the thing Tim Sampson brings that McKellar lacks is some kind of identity to the team; you can clearly see how they want to play the game. I'd argue that any advantage McKellar brings could be matched by Fisher, Ryan, or Palmer as supporting coaches.

    Rugby World Cup 2019

I feel for Spain, I really do, but this is such a common sense solution from WR (World Rugby). Next we'll hear that they're doing something about Romanian control over scheduling and referee appointments!

Totally agree, but I bet they wish they paid that extra amount if it got more people to the stadium. Seen many a report saying the average attendee spends around $70 per game, and I imagine the sponsorship deals are either structured to pay more for a higher crowd, or are negotiated based on...

Injuries aside, our World Cup team should be starting to take shape, and we shouldn't be picking anyone against Ireland who we wouldn't want starting a World Cup final.

Looks like we're taking Pete Samu. Will this be another Houston? https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/international/103910873/pete-samu-poised-to-join-brumbies-and-play-for-wallabies-as-early-as-june--report

I think McCaffrey has enough of Fardy in him to be a worthy 6 candidate, and Hanigan has really turned up this season, which might make them good bench options, but nobody can come close to the Pocock-Hooper-Timu potential.
