New Zealand v Wallabies, Eden Park, Sat 22nd October

This match thread has really reached its natural end.

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

I'm not sure whether this is irony or not - its hard to tell on the internet. Robinson was pretty good this year, Morahan was good but he was playing 15, I liked Jones but selectors further up don't seem to. But who are the absolute standout wingers in the NRC? Lots of players had breakout...

    Waratahs 2017

That will very much depend on whether certain players make as much improvement in 2017 as they did in 2016. Can Hanigan step up to become a first choice starter? Will Dempsey and Holloway discover second year syndrome? Can Simone take 12 from the other alternatives? Can Naiyaravoro play 60...

    Waratahs 2017

It's very possible if we get an injury or two and he gets a run in a match that he could do a Tom Robertson.

    Reds 2017

Nah, alcohol slows my brain and its slow enough already. Enough fun, I'll return to the Tahs thread where I belong. Its too easy here.

    Reds 2017

Tongue firmly planted in cheek, with a kernel of underlying truth. As a resident South Australian (all eastern staters are idiots who don't understand that SA is the greatest place on earth) I am now permitted to make sweeping generalisations like this.

    Waratahs 2017

Hadn't heard that, its bad luck for him. As he was ranked at 4 in the pecking order behind Kepu, Roberton and Ryan with Sandell and Needs behind him I think we are still well covered. Remember that Sandell was rated higher than Robertson at the start of last season.

    Reds 2017

One thing you have to say though, is that this is not just an attitude that's special to the QRU. I would hazard a guess that it would define the "Queenslander" attitude that is probably held by at least 80% of the population in that state. Think "Joh for Canberra" or more recently the political...

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

He looked pretty reasonable at 10 to my eyes in the under-20's except for his kicking. His place kicking was atrocious and field kicking pretty average.

    Waratahs 2017

Of the five THP's we have: Kepu probably stays at TH, though he has lots of LH experience, Ryan and Ta'avao transitioned to LH last year and Ryan clearly wants to stay there and Cheika wants Robertson to play at LH and this was where he played in the last two tests. We have an absolute logjam of...

EOYT 2016 - Possibles, probables and general banter

Yes Godwin showed his best form for several years in the NRC, a competition that is one (significant) step down from Super level. But in that competition he was probably the third or fourth best 12 on display. Both Simone and Lance were a class above him and probably Tapuai too - do we expect...

    Waratahs 2017

There was a rumour a few pages back that someone had got a career-ending injury. Is there any more news on this?

    Western Force 2017

While that's a bad loss, RHP would seem like a standout to take his place.

    Brumbies 2017

Ala'alatoa is the Wallaby back-up THP. Surely he is first choice prop. Alcock is a good back-up, but is not a starting-quality loosie. Butler is the same. Maybe 6. Staniforth, 7. Alcock, 8. Fardy would be optimum. Still doesn't fill me with optimism. Best Aussie Super lineout though. The...

    2017 SA Rugby

Quite often teams in CC have played a good style of running rugby. There are two problems: Super defences are faster (particularly NZ) and are therefore much more difficult to penetrate. SA teams tend to revert when under pressure (except for the magnificent Lions). The Bok coach knows as much...

NRC 2016 - Grand Final - NSW Country Eagles vs Perth Spirit

At least it isn't Stuart Berry. You can do a lot worse than Nick.

    NRC 2016 SF1: Eagles v Rising

I thought Fainga'a was close to best on ground. He was an absolute pain in the arse in a well beaten team.

TRC 2016: Matches not involving Australia

Reminds me of the comment Oates made to Scott.

    NRC 2016 SF2: Rays v Spirit

I wouldn't be quietly confident. The loss of Lance is a body blow from which I don't think you'll recover. That guy should have been in the Wallaby squad.

    NRC 2016 SF1: Eagles v Rising

What was impressive was that in the post-match interview he laughed it off as "just watering a dry patch on the field". Seriously though, I thought he was absolutely outstanding. He pushed himself beyond the limit and then just went again. What to do for him? The Reds are full, the Force don't...
