Thanks George. I notice he scored 2 tries off the bench to help St Pats knock off Mr Livingstone's club too. Do you know why he left the Wicks? At the risk of going over old ground, it's great to see the Kentwell Cup being run over full home and away rounds with just 10 teams. Pity we can't...

Brian, I'm sure that would be the outcome given time, but I'm not sure how much longer the likes of Horwitz, Kellaway and Deegan in particular will be available for the Wicks on a regular basis ie beyond this year. I've been very impressed with Roods in his limited appearances this year but...

IMO they all played solidly and almost the entire second half was played at Eastwood's end of the field, but the Wicks lacked the composure, continuity and variety to break through a very well organised defence. In short, the Wicks backline played like they hadn't played together before which...

If that's Sekope Kepu in the picture above you're really drawing a long bow. He may have been BORN in western Sydney but his family moved to NZ when he was still a kid. He played rugby from under 7s to under 21s in NZ before moving back to Oz.

I agree about Figg, giving up the captaincy may have paid dividends. I thought Pinomi went well against his old club last week and I think Harris is probably better suited to 6 or 8.

Interesting struggle between the half backs. I thought both Harry and Donlan both had close to their best games this year last week and Nugget went well also. Maybe they're pushing each other.

I think Wright had a recurrence of his hamstring injury against Warringah. Rees-Hole was named in 1sts last week, but didn't show; named in 2nds this week. I agree he looked good before injury. I think Koteczky is better at FB or 13 than at 10 or 12.

    Shute Shield 2014

I hope not -- I've always liked seeing a few canines at the rugby. Adds to the village atmosphere as well as boosting the crowd numbers. Some of them make a lot more sense in their comments about the game than their human counterparts as well. ;)

Good thinking Bomber, let's give the refs a cane to bring the miscreants into line :D

Had a fairly quiet first half and came off at half time with what looked like an injury (can't remember now whether it was leg or upper body). This year he's started maybe 4 or 5 lower grade games but is yet to play a full game. Courageous (as in "Yes, Prime Minister" ) decision to...

Is this the youngest 1st grade backline in the history of the SS? http://www.randwickrugby.com.au/rugby/grade/teams/4204-round-14-v-eastwood-grade-teams

Wamberal, I agree with you, but I learnt in the army that there are 2 types of respect: one which comes automatically with the pips on the shoulder and the second which must be earned by your actions. Refs are certainly automatically entitled to the first, but like the rest of us have to earn...

    Shute Shield 2014

I don't know whether I've mellowed with age, but I have to say I've been pretty impressed with the standard of refs over the last few years and the Wicks have been struggling so there's been plenty of opportunities to blame the ref for our misfortune. I get really pissed off with spectators...

    Shute Shield 2014

As the TV commentators pointed out Randwicks tactics on Saturday appeared to be to throw the ball around to run the big Wests forwards around. Seem to work too. Wests had to rely on ad lib rugby which it must be said they're very good at.

Any playing like he should be in 2nds too.

There have actually been only 36 players in the starting line ups this year (ie not counting players who have come off the bench is 1sts). 20 made their Wicks 1st grade debut this year (some had already played 1sts at other clubs), 17 of them were new to the club this year. I believe there...

I was just responding to the question. I wasn't making any claims about developing players. I believe you're right that Kellaway has only played a couple of grade games and no colts and he's only come off the bench a couple of times in 1sts which is why I didn't list him. If you're going to...

And of course David Horwitz came straight from school to 1sts and has never played a lower grade or colts game.

I think (but not 100% sure) all of the following who have played 1sts this year came through the Colts: Tristan Goodbody Jesse Harris Tom Connor Stephen Hoiles Ethan Ford Andrew Deegan Nathan Roye Tom Bennett Mark Baldwin Tim Wright Ned Hanigan Will Munro Andrew Norton Oli Nicholson And there's...
