    long term coach?

Not advocating White for the job. But I don't see the ability to identify and then work cohesively with excellent support staff a disadvantage. Especially when it seems to have been a major problem in the Deans era.

Australia v British & Irish Lions, 3rd Test (Sydney)

Sky UK own the rights for the UK and Ireland. Our national broadcaster RTÉ stopped trying to compete many years ago and seem happy that Sky allow them to show highlights of the English soccer. They and the BBC have also lost the rights to the Celtic league for next season to Sky. So the only...

Australia v British & Irish Lions, 3rd Test (Sydney)

Don't think Gatland actually named BOD the captain, the media just assumed he would. Andy Irvine did an interview yesterday where he named BOD as one of the Lions legends. As he's the tour manager it looks like it was a buttering up exercise before Gatland dropped the bombshell.

    AWJ will be the captain.

    Lions Tour 2013

Win or lose at the weekend I hope the Lions move away from the model of picking the coach from those in charge of the home nations 1 year out. Would like to see a coach who can come in with a clean slate and some fresh ideas who will give everyone a fair crack of the whip. However in the...

Australia v British & Irish Lions, 3rd Test (Sydney)

Gatland's plan B is normally to do more of Plan A. So if bashing it up in the centres isn't working he's need Tuilagi to come on and bash it up in the centres. Not a very inspiring overall selection. BOD out is a big mistake in my opinion. I think Davies and BOD have been the 2 best centres on...

    Lions Tour 2013

When it's the one of the biggest games you're likely to ever play in your mind can really do a number on you. Short of a break I think any players first reaction would be that they hope to be OK for the next game. I'm sure no one wanted to break the bad news to him on Saturday night and they...

    James Horwill cited for stamping

Good to see Horwill was cleared to play. Now let's forget this crap and concentrate on the important thing, the rugby. There's a series to be won and hopefully the 3rd installment will be just as exciting as the 1st two but with more of the quality of the 1st one. I'd love a Lions victory but...

    James Horwill cited for stamping

    Oops sorry.

    James Horwill cited for stamping

You won't get many Aussies denying he was lucky to get off and should have been banned. What most seem to be angry about is that the once the initial decision was made the IRB didn't just leave it at that. Their move undermines the legitimacy of the whole citing/judiciary process. It also...

Australia v British & Irish Lions, 3rd Test (Sydney)

I'd go for SOB, Tips & one of Heaslip/Toby with the other on the bench. Mako, both Youngs, Parling, Davies out of the starting team for Corbs, Hibbard/Best (still worried about his throwing so would give Hibbard the nod to start), Murray, Gray/Evans (1 to start the other on the bench) & Roberts...

    Lions Tour 2013

Also it looks like Warburton will probably be out for the final test, so Tipuric should finally get the test time he deserves this weekend.

    Lions Tour 2013

I think for the next one Corbs back in for Vunipola, Gray for Parling and a genuine 2nd row on the bench. Murray to start, Roberts in for Davies. I'd like to see SOB starting but I think Gats will go with the same backrow and maybe drop Croft from the 23. Hooker is a real problem. Youngs is...

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

Game could have gone either way. Was fitting that Halfpenny missed the kick at the end as Australia definitely didn't deserve a 2-0 scoreline over the 2 tests.

I think this has very little to do with Aus v BIL and any tinfoil hat theories and a lot more to do with the IRB pushing their own agenda. They want to get rid of stamping from the game and have now used their new powers (since June 2012) to twice appeal a case when stamping was involved. Once...

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

One of the big strengths of Bowe's game is the support lines he runs. He picks excellent lines (something Cuthbert has yet to learn) that often turn a half break into a try. He's also a better defender and as a former Gaelic Footballer is very good under the high ball. The big downside is that...

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

Just one other thing I noticed while researching the Thomson appeal. The ability for the IRB to appeal these decisions was only introduced in June last year. So this may only be the 2nd such appeal, but there will probably be quite a few more in the coming years.

Australia vs British and Irish Lions 2nd Test (Melbourne)

The IRB issued an almost identical statement at the time of the Thomson appeal. Their big problem is trying to get consistency on the stamping issue, they want it gone from the game (along with the tip tackle) and therefore want players banned for at least a couple of weeks. Still don't think...

    Lions Tour 2013

I'd watch an Aus v Lions test every week for the rest of the year if they scheduled them. Having said that, with the way injuries are mounting up, most of us posting here would be playing around September time and back to posting in October due to injury.

    Lions Tour 2013

Now that Paulie is sticking around for the rest of the tour, I'd love to hear him on the G&GR podcast. Would be an excellent guest even if he's temporarily the "enemy". Not sure how feasible it would be, but the guy would give an interview to remember. He's doesn't just speak passionately about...
