    The Rugby Championship 2017

Absolutely key point. Historically, 2 BC games at home would be a huge income source for the ARU. Say 80,000 @ ANZ, 52,000 Suncorp assuming, as used to occur, sell-outs. Total $ income at a net yield (i.e. after paying all stadia and related costs) of say $60 average per ticket = $7,920,000...

Waratahs v Jaguares, Round 16 - Saturday 8 July, Allianz Stadium

Surely you are not serious? Why do the world's best pro teams invest markedly and increasingly in highly specialised 'mental skills' and 'sports psych' coaches? Of the 20 or so reasons, one is certainly to deal with the dimensions of human athletic skill in team sports of exactly the type...

British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand (2017)

Interesting piece by Sir Clive W, especially re the question of why the ABs did not go for the drop goal (no doubt November 2003 was in his mind!): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/article-4678210/New-Zealand-mystique-gone-Lions-draw.html

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

As a broad answer: because in that short period when the Reds did well my own anecdotal sense of the then reported crowd numbers aligned reasonably with my own others' sense of the actual crowd in games we attended.

British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand (2017)

By any criteria that's wise, this tour was a marvellous win for the Lions, and the very concept of them. Most observers severely underestimate the coaching and other difficulties of assembling elite players that rarely if ever have played together before, then have them together for only 6 or...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It always interests (actually, greatly concerns) me why so many of our RUs - incl the ARU - think a 'must have' is a wealthy banker or 'highly regarded' businessman as Chair, or close to that. Mostly, this proclivity has proven totally misplaced and near-disastrous for the good of the...

    Reds 2018

Good to see them caring about the big issues and their fans' perceptions. Next we hope to see the QRU survey that asks: 'As a Reds Member do you consider that you are getting value for money for your investment and time spent at Reds matches?'

Waratahs v Jaguares, Round 16 - Saturday 8 July, Allianz Stadium

    Very slow learners over there.

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

So you conclude Reg that the QRU has been knowingly inflating Reds home crowd figures every year 'things go bad'? If so, the overall point is doubly concerning. (Btw, my source for the 2009 Reds crowd numbers was the SANZAR official Wikipedia page re all 2009 S14 results which includes crowd...

British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand (2017)

    Indeed, very much indeed.

Waratahs v Jaguares, Round 16 - Saturday 8 July, Allianz Stadium

Or just lacked the intellectual honesty and courage to admit they were wrong and further often made it hard for others to offer the genuine counter critique that's mostly been proven correct over time, whether it's re NSWRU, Tahs, Wallabies, ARU. They always knew better. Then.

Waratahs v Jaguares, Round 16 - Saturday 8 July, Allianz Stadium

Where are all those Tahs posters/fans that used to rationalise, justify, apologise and excuse every imaginable failing in the Tahs' coaches and the Tahs' management and even the NSW RU and, worse, patronised and stigmatised here many who had the temerity to disagree with them? Where are they...

2017 TV ratings and crowd figures

Yes, that was quoted as 'official' but the QRU's latest Reds crowd figures have much in common with the 1960s' Soviet Union GNP and worker productivity numbers. They mapped hope and need, but rarely fact. I'll bet the true number was < 10,000 if the pitch's blades of grass count was not...

    Reds v Brumbies Rnd 16 2017

In some senses, QC (Quade Cooper) has left already. There he's been, training as back-up Wallaby 10 no less, and he puts in a performance as mistake-ridden and generally flawed as he did last night vs a very average Brumbies performance. Oh well. But the bigger point you rightly touch on lb is when the QRU...

    Reds v Brumbies Rnd 16 2017

I'm feeling so pleased that our Reds - Stiles particularly - will gain additional coaching assistance from Totality Tony next year. Very smart decision by the QRU.

    Reds v Brumbies Rnd 16 2017

I'm pleased these two teams are not culling candidates.

    Reds v Brumbies Rnd 16 2017

The 'rare Brisbane fog' must surely feature as an excuse any minute.

This is so laughable it's hyper-laughable

When will the 'players are rusty after the Test break' come out of Horan's mouth?
