You’re grasping now- how much time did Murray get off the bench against the ABs? If we want to deal with hypotheticals arguably the Wallabies were weaker with Quade and Kerevi not available for that match.

If someone has been captain or part of the leadership group in a professional team set-up, then it’s probably a good indication that they have leadership qualities. If they haven’t, and are suddenly selected as captain for their national team, its probably a concern.

He seemed to regress this year, regardless I think we have tended overuse him- especially as a running option off the lineout. If he added a little variation to his game (basically some passing) and more footwork in contact- he could be world class.

I wouldn’t read too much into a Barbarians game played at the end of a very long season, and those two players very much have assured positions if they come out of Super Rugby injury free.

By this line of thinking the only halfbacks in the World who are going to look consistently good are those playing for France, South Africa and Ireland. Forward pack dominance obviously helps but it’s a little bit of a cop out. Regardless Australia‘s strength at the moment is the forwards..

I don’t think he’s a bad player and he might be the best scrumhalf we have, but I don’t think he‘s shown enough form in the Wallabies for his selection to be a given. I actually don’t think it’s a particular skill issue either, I just don’t think his decision-making is world-class.

McDermott has gotten a pretty easy ride in these forums recently. I tend to agree with BH here, despite his upside and obvious potential, I can’t say that the Wallabies have ever really looked that much (or at all) better with him in the team compared to his competitors. You can’t say the same...

Serious question- how long can Maclennan stick around? Another 4 weeks? The media aren’t going to let this go.

There is merit but he’s always been a limited footballer and there hasn’t appeared to be much improvement in the last 5 plus years beyond his physical capabilities. An effective but limited Super Rugby player seems to be his ceiling.

Tomthumb, Rebel Man and Noscrumlife are accounts run by the same dude- don‘t bother arguing.

I struggle to understand the hysteria around the Italy loss- I can’t emphasize this enough - he picked a second string team. Rennie’s team beat Scotland and Wales and literally just lost to Ireland and France. That seems like a pretty good fucking tour in hindsight right.

It’s funny that this reputation for yellow cards came from 3 games on a single tour, despite having not received any cards prior or subsequently. He was never ’exposed’ in his previous body of work including a decent series against the French the year earlier. The reality is Gordon is not...

But his rationale is bullshit and people see through it. How could Hooper be less committed than someone like Slipper or White? And he’s won more games than anyone from the Rebels. He left out Hooper because of ego- he wanted the other players to know that the team was his and no one else’s.

Hooper had been a far greater servant for Australian rugby than Jones, and is far more respected. I’ve never seen one guy (Eddie Jones) destroy their own legacy so quickly- it’s frankly bizarre.

What would they have sacked him for Rodha?

    Wallabies 2024

Hooper is not Quade and never has been? There’s a reason why you’re going to get a lot of ex-players coming out to defend Hooper- the guy is universally respected. Whats going on here btw? I thought the mods on this site were the rational ones.

The criticism wasn’t about form? Criticism of form is completely fair game; but to criticize his commitment to the team and winning is not.
