Off course, hyperbole, but ...it was BBC's first hit out as a 23. Also BBC's depth is not as good as some think. I noticed the scrummaging weakened when they lost their 3 (no more Nudgee front row with their feet dangling off the ground), & too many pointless penalties.

N Good points. Nice to know after comfortably beating Nudgee .... there still is a lot of room for improvement.

2012 was actually an impressive side, but I think it still had a bit of self-doubt about it: ie. the loss to Grammar. The current side looks aggressive and determined. They'll need to sort the line-outs out but Tuuga has only had two games at hooker so the throwing should improve over the trial...

    Is Christenson fit?
  5. S

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

Perhaps, but if size and strength are his main attributes then the step up from u16 to u18 is a big one, much bigger than if he were a speed/skill player. It will be interesting to see if they play him this weekend.

True: BBC could be underdone because it was their first trial and from the sounds of it they didn't have much opposition. Looking forward to seeing how the BBC v Nudgee scrum match-up goes. It will be one of the interesting games this weekend.

How is the front row: RE:my prediction of Kahn Helms, Kareem Tuuga, Luke Peterson: three big strong and experienced 18 yr olds. ('They' say- "the first player you pick in any team should be the tight-head, the second is the reserve tight head") The size, strength and experience of the front row...

They must be pretty impressive 16 yr olds to push out two 18 yr old props, including one in his 3rd year in the 1sts!

Possibly, but my guess is this is the front row for the BGS trial.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

    BBC Front Row Kahn LH (2nd XV 2013), Tuuga 2 (1st XV -6- 2013), Peterson TH (1st XV 2012 - 4/6: 2013 -3)

How did the TSS forwards go?

    QLD GPS Rugby 2014

Possibly, I think Lazarus had blood bin stint on the field last year, as did Helms. He'll need to get some condition.

Personally I think Churchie will contest: again, the GPS trails will be interesting.

Round 1 at Southport: it will be interesting. They do meet beforehand twice, once at the GPS trials and once in a pre-season fixture.

I'm giving best estimates here but that looks like a huge pack. Helms- 120 Christensen- 105 Peterson- 110 Leyland- 100 Swain- 110 Tuuga- 105 Malaulau- 90 Gunte- 115+

Interesting note book: I think BBC have internal trials this week. So much 1st XV experience already in the squad, nine returning from strong 2013 and one from the ill-fated 2012 team, there are going to be some good players on the bench.

    Trial matches will be interesting.

It would be an impressive effort for any forward to upstage players who were first pick forwards last year and are a year older and bigger. Also, two weeks into pre-season training is not the best time to gauge fitness levels, still two and a half months to the season proper.

    OK- here goes: BBC 1st XV 2014 1. Kahn Helms 2. Connor Christensen 3. Luke Peterson (1st XV. 2012 & 2013) 4. Dylan Leyland (Yr 1st XV 2013) 5. Darcy T- Swain (Yr 1st XV 2013) 6. Kareem Tuuga (Yr 1st XV 2013) 7. Christian Malaulau (Yr 1st XV 2013) 8. Ben Gunter (Yr 1st XV 2013) 9. Max...

Not sure that they are both certain for 1st XV... in fact I don't think there are any certainties, with the depth at BBC this year. Malalou's issue may be his size, BBC have a number of fit, fast and big back-rowers this year who can play 6,7,8 - Christian can only really play 7. Edwards is a...
