    Waratahs 2013

Yes, I was pleased to see, in one of the articles about Folau, that Cheika was pointing out how much he would need to learn about working off the ball. He should be fit for running plenty after AFL, at least. A kick is only as good as its chase.

    Waratahs 2013

I agree Cyclo, I agree. The downfall of the Tahs has not been kicking per se, it's been poor kicking. The 2011 Reds were much more kick-happy than the Tahs, but were obviously a spectacular attacking team because they kicked well. The Tahs were just kicking the ball away with no obvious plan...

Quade telling it how it is

Brad Walter has been on rugby duty whilst the actual rugby journos have been on the spring tour and now on holidays. He's been covering the Folau story also, just to rub salt into the NRL wounds. Agree the ARU has been way behind on the PR front here.

    Waratahs 2013

Of course, his leap is amazing and it could be very useful. It's just, after the last couple of seasons, I go a little bit queazy in the stomach when I hear anyone from the Tahs talk enthusiastically about kicking the ball. I'm sure it's just a reflex, nothing a few solid years of therapy can't fix.

So how do the Tahs plan to utilise big Izzy? That's right - kicking: http://www.news.com.au/sport/rugby-gold/waratahs-plan-to-use-israel-folaus-aerial-supremacy-to-lethal-effect/story-fndpu1x3-1226531628852

Did Folau ever kick in general play when in the NRL? It will be interesting to see what 2 years of AFL coaching will have done to that aspect of his game.

Hmmm, I think "The Big IF" might be an appropriate nickname for him too.

    Waratahs 2013

HJ, any shortfall in actual revenue produced by IF will be accounted for by the "buzz" he brings, lots of free advertising for the Tahs today, hopefully it persists into next year.

    Waratahs 2013

It would appear Folau's manager Isaac Moses may have been taking advice from Khoder on how to deal with NRL clubs... Perhps someone should point out to Folau that whilst Moses did lead Israel out of bondage and through the Red Sea on dry land, he ended up stuck in the wilderness for 40...

    Waratahs 2013

Amazing. I just can't see the logic from Folau's point of view though - he's rejected what must surely be a better offer from the Eels in order to risk sitting on the bench or playing park football for a season, after showing a distinct lack of interest in learning a new game over the past 2...

Quade telling it how it is

Right, that's it. This whole business has gone from the really unusual to the totally bizarre. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for Quade. Quade, what do you want - a genuine chance of playing 10 for the Wallabies against the B&I Lions, or the chance to throw a few punches against a...

    Stats don't lie (apparently)

Another interesting stats-related article from the Guardian, via Paul Cully's Twitter. http://m.guardian.co.uk/ms/p/gnm/op/sG69PMYjb60APSkOd_cicLg/view.m?id=15&gid=sport/blog/2012/nov/01/analysts-edge-autumn-tests-shaun-edwards&cat=rugby-union The All Blacks completing 60% of their rucks in...

    Brumbies 2013

Lee, this restraint of trade is small change compared to a salary cap, which plenty of people with more knowledge than I believe is a blatant restraint of trade.

    Brumbies 2013

It's different because he'll be promoting a competitor. Not many businesses would take kindly to that, in or out of work hours. Nevertheless, how refreshing to have several provincial coaches who create some interest. Link has been good at it for teh Reds, Jake at the Brumbies and Cheika at...

Maximising the opportunity of Rugby 7s in Australia

I think networks like live sport also because it's not endangered by internet piracy. Live sport is almost always more interesting than highlights anyway.

Maximising the opportunity of Rugby 7s in Australia

Good thread p.Tah, you're not talking to yourself. Where did Sheedy make those comments? He's usually a relentless propagandist for AFL - which is why they gave him the Western Sydney job.

Quade telling it how it is

Quade definitely owes the Reds big time. They are pushing his side of the story hard: http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/cooper-to-sit-up-and-take-notice-says-reds-boss-20121101-28mym.html

Quade telling it how it is

If there was ever any chance that Robbie was going to be sacked before the EOYT, Quade's comments killed it. No self-respecting CEO would have wanted to give the impression he'd sacked the coach under those circumstances. If Quade pushed Robbie anywhere, it was into the Lions tour.

    ARU Governance Report

Good news that it has been released quickly. I wonder how recommendation 1 - state unions being responsible for growing the game in their jurisdiction - will line up with 13 - the ARU is the keeper of the code from grassroots to elite level?
