I've proposed a couple of alternatives on here, and previously have advocated for other ideas such as two competitions (e.g. mirroring the North with a domestic comp and a Super Rugby Cup mirroring Challenge/Champions Cup format), and going it completely alone. Everybody just says 'that won't...

As a take it or leave it offer, as opposed to leaving Super Rugby? Remember, Tew is gone at the end of this year, we'll be negotiating with somebody new. Mitre 10 Cup is not booming financially - may be just the change it needs.

    Brumbies 2020

Was saying to somebody the other day that Canberra would be perfect for him. Grew up at West Harbour with Allan and Scott. Would be a wonderful acquisition

An alternative I have thought of, kind of a half-assed attempt, would be to commit to staying in SANZAAR for Super Rugby if NZ allow us to enter 5 teams in Mitre 10 Cup, without Ranfurly Shield eligibility of course, instead of persevering with the NRC. 5 teams, retaining existing identities.

But the Kiwis and SA teams don't want to play more local derbies - they want to play less, which they will get if the round-robin 14 team competition goes ahead as planned. What did we get out of that new deal that suits us, in the most competitive sporting market on the planet? Oh that's right...

The game is great. It's booming in the north. People will still watch it. This current administration are so concerned that they'll be the ones who kill the game, that they're not actually trying to save it. And even if it doesn't die on their watch, they're complicit if it dies on the next lot's.

    Rebels 2020

Multitude of reasons. One common occurrence has been dragging people along on the hope of a renewal and then either massively low-balling them or not re-contracting when they've stayed loyal and most of the overseas gigs are gone. But there's also been players forced into early...

People didn't think that the Big Bash would work either. We have to have a crack. We just have to. And we'll have to go backwards to go forwards - smaller salary caps etc. for first few years, meaning we lose some more players overseas, but we can't keep rolling along like we currently are.

Tell them to fly over us, and see how long that lasts. I'm sure Tasman/North Harbour would be very interested in joining the type of competition you suggested, and the SA teams are still hedging their bets and considering going North. It's time for bravery

In terms of players who are about to leave, I couldn't tell you, but certainly some big-name departees of the past 12 months were treated appallingly.

2019 TV ratings and crowd numbers

When both teams were playing for finals, they're pretty awful numbers. The increase from a 5:30pm Kiwi derby for the Tahs game are only 10-15k.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Why do we have to cut a team? Why can't we have a 10-12 team Trans-Pacific competition where all games are on in prime time TV and against teams from places we actually know, and as a result they generate greater commercial interest and players can command greater salaries. Therefore, the...

    Rebels 2020

The Storm make a financial loss every year, but their on-field success has been built on a culture of loyalty and respect. The Rebels as an organisation have shown very little of that to their players over the years, unfortunately. Almost every single past Rebels player will tell you that they...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Heard that there are some redundancies occurring within Fox's Rugby dept - not entirely sure who though so won't post names in case I am mistaken. Anybody able to shed light?

2019 TV ratings and crowd numbers

    I heard roughly 5,500

    Waratahs 2019

All teams need to spend 90% (or maybe even 95%) of the salary cap under the CBA

Same club as Tamati Ellison. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a flexi deal either

    Where to for Super Rugby?

You've hit the nail on the head. They gambled on the World League getting up to fill their coffers, so that they're not as reliant on the broadcast revenue on Super Rugby. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't be trying to improve it AS WELL as getting the World League up... And until the NH nations...
