2020 Super Rugby AU Round 4 Waratahs vs Melbourne Rebels

Possibly seeing this slightly differently to a lot of people. Firstly, the Tahs lost that match due to dreadful discipline. It was just penalty after penalty, plus two yellow cards, which gave the Rebels so much ball and territory they had to win. It was a disgrace, and it wasn't just the...

2020 Super Rugby AU Round 4 Waratahs vs Melbourne Rebels

If these young Tahs are the real deal for 2020, and not just a development project, they need to win this one. This would be the best side we can put on the paddock, with only Foketi still injured, so let's see how they go. Haven't sighted Pat Tafa or Cameron Clarke since Covid, are they both...

    Waratahs 2020

Peter Horton was a pommy schoolteacher. Played for Armidale City and then went to Brisbane. One of the dirtiest players to strap on a boot for Aus!

    Wallabies 2020

There have been plenty of front row captains in the modern game who don't play the full match, so AAA is not definitely ruled out. Augustin Creevy, John Schmidt, Keith Wood, Dylan Hartley and of course Stephen Moore to name a few in the modern era.

    Wallabies 2020

Captaincy is interesting. Unlikely to be a front rower (although not impossible), neither Wright nor DHP guaranteed a spot, Prior probably 4th ranked 9 at the moment (behind White, Powell & McDermott) and it's hard to see why you would replace a 28 year old Hooper with a 30 year old Simmons...

    2020 Super Rugby Round 3 - Waratahs v Brumbies @ ANZ Stadium - Saturday 18 July

Very happy with the changes to the Tahs side, with perhaps the only other one I would have made being Staniforth for Hanigan. I think guys like Bell, Harris and Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) have huge potential and represent a wonderful investment in the future for the Tahs, however they need to be eased in off the...

    Waratahs 2020

Walton hits the ball up nice and straight, and makes his tackles, but from what I've sen that's about it. I would certainly rather see Hunt starting there. I think we need Staniforth to start, if only for a bit more grunt in the scrums. Ned has been pretty underwhelming, although I think he was...

Super Rugby AU Round 2 - Reds vs Rebels

On the draw, back in the day extra time was just that, 10 minutes each way, no golden point. Armidale City won a GF against Robb College, I think about 1980, scoring two tries in extra time after being equal after 80 minutes.

    Wallabies 2020

I think Tate is the standout atm, and for mine White has to be bloody good when he gets back to be rated ahead of him. Powell third, perhaps Prior could challenge that, interesting to see how he goes tonight, behind a pack that should hold it's own and opposite a second choice Tahs 9.

    Wallabies 2020

Harrison is like Foley in so much as he's a 10 who has a good running game, but he's a much stronger defender and has a much better kicking game. I agree Lolesio is ahead of Harrison at this point in time, but you would have to have BR's biases to say they were a country mile apart. Unless two...

    How long is Robbo out?

2020 Super Rugby Round 1 (REDUX): Reds v Waratahs

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed the game, and some of you should just watch Kiwi rugby, because you will simply never be happy. I mean, here were two very young, inexperienced sides in their first game back after a four month lay-off, of course there were mistakes. I can't believe how well the Tahs...

2020 Super Rugby Round 1 (REDUX): Reds v Waratahs

Wow, 11 of the Tahs 23 had never been on a Super rugby field before 2020! Defence will be a huge concern, we know neither Newsome nor Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) can tackle, not too sure about Walton, we'll see I guess. Penney has really gone all out on youth though, no Holloway, no Hunt, Dempsey & Staniforth on the...

2020 Super Rugby Round 1 (REDUX): Reds v Waratahs

I agree with just about everything you said BH, but like UTR would start Ramm over Mark N (Nawaqanitawase). Possibly not as clever, but bigger, faster, stronger (for which being 22, not 19 is a factor) and a WAY better defender.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Seriously, I don't know if we'd beat a club side without Hooper!! Earlier this year, apart from Bell, HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes) and Harrison, he looked like the only one who cared.

2020 Super Rugby Round 1 (REDUX): Reds v Waratahs

For mine Ramm has been the pick of our wingers in his couple of appearances so far. May not be as clever as Mark N (Nawaqanitawase), but just as quick, a stronger runner and can tackle. Mark needs to develop physically a little more I think. I like UTG's side, except my wings would be Clarke and Ramm. I would...

    Waratahs 2021

Yeah, don't know if Godwin ever really went on from his early promise (a bit like a few others hanging around the Tahs) but at Super level I think Hodge would be a great addition.

    Waratahs 2021

If you compare the three or four games Mason has had, with the same number from Harrison, it's chalk and cheese really

    Waratahs 2021

Agree Reg, while wishing him all the best, I didn't really see anything to suggest he was suited to the top level of the game.

    Waratahs 2020

While a lot of these players got a constant bagging on these threads, the loss of Beale, Fitzpatrick, Kepu, Foley and Phipps is just a massive loss in experience, in most cases replaced by a guy who, however promising, hasn't played a minute of super rugby prior to this year. To consider the...
