    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Looking at those squads a part of me wonders if another possible way of developing a '3rd Tier' (which yes, I hate that term as well) would be to kind of look to resurrect the GRR to a degree. The President of the new Japanese League One structure has openly stated that they are interested in...

The NRC model is my preferred set up but as you suggest. With a more significant marketing budget and HP environment.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Not necessarily. If a club successfully bids for a spot they could run their reserves in the Shute Shield. I understand many people look at this topic as an add on to club rugby but in all honesty if we go down that path were going to see a growing tide of players from these clubs headed...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I'd be willing to bet we'd see 3 teams from both emerge pretty quickly as regular presences. There's always another means to get it done. Open it to bids. Set up a criteria for entry and get clubs and groups to submit bids to enter.

Perhaps rep squad is the wrong terminology. How about franchises. Which looking at our two primary competitors do work.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

It would likely depend on what the overall goals of the competition is. Personally it should be to establish a professional tier between club and Super Rugby. Anything less would be a waste of time. That may require some clubs to accept that they aren't set for a national competition. If you were to...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Another solution. Would be the Top 3 clubs from the Shute and Hospitals Cup plus a rep squad from Sydney and Brisbane filled with the best talent not in the three including returning Super Rugby players. Then the Vikings and Kookaburras from the ACT. Plus a Melbourne and Perth rep squad. Essentially a...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

That's assuming that all of the best talent is concentrated in those clubs. Which isn't necessarily the case.

    Super Rugby 2022

It's £67m over 4 years. Divied up between all of the participating clubs and Unions. After operating expenses. Not exactly a bonanza. The current Premiership deal is £152m over the same time frame. The extra cash helps but doesn't drive the bulk of the income these clubs receive. Remember...

    Super Rugby 2022

How much do you think the current European deal is worth?

    Super Rugby 2022

Mate, the TV deal for the Champions Cup isn't the main driver of those leagues. It's very much an added bonus.

    Super Rugby 2022

So you are trying to equate those Cup comps as primary structures. Which they most certainly aren't. And they aren't true trans-national leagues. Both the Premiership and Top 14 are clearly their primary domestic structures.

    Super Rugby 2022

I know I certainly haven't. I want a domestic competition as our primary structure with a Cup comp involving NZ and Japan aswell to add more to the schedule both in terms of interest and revenue. We've seen via ratings not only this season but over several years that from an Australian...

    Super Rugby 2022

Seriously? Or are you trying to suggest that the Champions Cup is the same thing as a organised league structure?

    Western Force 2021

Didn't they say there were 18 schools? Regardless it's good to see. And hopefully we'll see it grow further from 2023 and beyond.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

As Kiap mentions the Tigers are Hong Kong. Could even just switch out South China to HK if they wanted to. He mentions China as a possibility in the future alongside Malaysia. But in terms of naming teams he only mentions Hyundai Glovis and the Tigers. South Korea would offer an opportunity...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

A couple of tidbits. The RE Super Cup is reaching its finals stage. The East looks the stronger of the two with the winner likely to come from there. Though it's tough to tell where Lusitanos and Iberians stand. But what's interesting is the potential entrants from 2023. Both Poland and Czechia...

Australian Bid for 2027 World Cup

It's something many seem to not quite appreciate particularly living in a country where travelling similar distances from Sydney would only get you to Newcastle. It's less than two hours from Dublin to Belfast. Dublin to Galway. A touch over 2. My sister was over their in 2018 and fell ill in...

Australian Bid for 2027 World Cup

Umm...that's the Belfast metro area not the city which is 341k. Dublin's metro area is around 1.5m.
