SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2022 - NZ & Drua matches with no match thread

Yeah. The crowd was small at Commbank last bight but there was a crowd present. Things just seem a little hollow without the crowd building the anticipation.

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2022 - NZ & Drua matches with no match thread

    Umm...tackling optional in this game.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

It's been linked to a sports marketing company HQ'd in London. RedStrike. I'm not sure on the funding either to be honest. I think something like this could be doable from a European Rugby perspective but adding in a Sth African & Zim/Kenyan involvement will make things a little messier. It's...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

There's a tweet going round about a new proposed league featuring the Cheetahs plus a team from each of Scotland and Italy, a combined Zimbabwean and Kenyan franchise, two from Spain, Georgia, Romania and Russia. To be launched in April and play its first season in October. Kind of hard to judge...

    Proposed Nations Championship

In an ideal scenario. I'm totally not expecting that to be how it would actually flesh out. But my point is, if there is say $1b in revenue generated by this concept annually assuming the valuation remains largely the same as the initial proposal. Then we do need to ensure a fairer split of...

    Proposed Nations Championship

I wrote this up on the T2 forum. Thoughts. One that I could think of is playing this over two years and instead of a 1st and 2nd division run it as a single competition with two divisions but similar to the old NZ NPC format with a Cup and a Championship. Each with two 'conferences' of 6 teams...

    Proposed Nations Championship

We currently get $30m a year. IF we see similar levels of value in this proposal as we did in the original and IF they shared equally it that would see us receiving more than we currently do. As for it being charity. Think of it more as investment. An influx of funds would help drive development...

    Proposed Nations Championship

They mention establishing two divisions. If we want to help drive the game forward in a number of emerging nations there's no use in hoarding all the revenue among the top 12. The original proposal had this as part of the deal. The teams in the top division would get the largest share but those...

    Proposed Nations Championship

I'm pretty sure the initial offer was $7.8b(Euro) over 12 years. and was increased to $9.6b as things moved along. Still not something to be dismissed. If it were split equally among say 24 nations that's over $40m AUD. That would be significant enough for us. Imagine what it would do for other...

    Proposed Nations Championship

Likely. But the upside of that would be more variety in terms of teams featuring.

    Proposed Nations Championship

An alternative would be to really commit to do it and run it as a 24 team competition run over 2 years. Two mixed divisions featuring two pools of 6 teams. Home and away against your pool opponents and a game against the other 6 teams in the pool in your division. Played exclusively in the...

    Proposed Nations Championship

Particularly as it will only be 12 nations per division. It will be tough to see any of those willing face relegation. I'm a fan of the concept but I do not want something too narrow in scope. The only way I'd be happy is if there's a commitment to play Div 2 teams in the years in between.

That's why I watch it on my laptop. Split screens and cast it to my TV. Plus, for things like MLR and REC you can watch them on demand. Which I do throughout the week.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

A couple of hugely entertaining and tight games in the REC overnight. And a predictable beating. Spain got the win over Russia. In what was a pretty back and forth game. Spain looked the most dangerous with ball in hand and early signs suggested they'd dominate but Russia kept finding enough to...

    Waratahs 2022

What's been encouraging for me is that's there appears to be a notable shift in attitude particularly around the contest from a physicality perspective. Players more willing to hit the contact with intensity and purpose that was lacking last season.
