...And the least encumbered with history or tradition. I don't mean to paint those qualities as negatives, rather, it allows them to be more agile, flexible with membership ad respond to change quicker.

And I think then that's probably a far better metric to base the schools success on then. If their marks are north bound as well as their sporting prowess as a whole - then this suggests a positive school culture is at play.

I'd be certain that my insight is even further abreast of yours so happy to defer to your judgement. Sad news about the scholarship holders though and I'd imagine that this probably happens in a number of schools too - a two speed program of the haves and the have nots. Ultimately, if your...

It's hard to know where that line is in a school context isn't it. From very much at arms length (and seeing what had happened at Eddies in Canberra) it would appear that the measure of success was winning games rather than lifelong Rugby participation. Winning games is all well and good (and...

...and on a bit of side note - correct me if I'm wrong but this appears to be the most animated the ISA thread has been in some years - perhaps at all! Well done contributors :)

    Australian Schoolboys / Under 18s 2019

That would seem to be a common sense approach. No blocking of participation, no threats, no repercussions. Just once you're selected in both teams (club or school pathway) make a choice that you feel is best for you and head that way. It's really nice to see a combined pathway here. Many other...

Note that Trinity and Pats playing away at Shore this weekend. Would assume Trinity 1 v Shore 1, Pats 1 v Shore 2 and so on?

It's very good to see. It would be trips like this that really ingrain Rugby culture in the school and potentially get a few more of their Leaguies to come across. Best of luck to all both teams and I hope it's a great experience for them.

Saw tat Pius is advertising for a 1st XV coach - an external provider or contractor, not a teaching staff member. This is the way to go. Schools who persist with the 'teaching staff must coach" model take note - you want english teachers teaching english and rugby coaches coaching rugby. If...

Agree with your last point. If the compulsory nature of sport was removed, Rugby and Cricket would still soldier on, but Soccer and Basketball would struggle.

Jim how do you find the GPS Thirds competition? I think it's a sensible measure given the logistical and demographical issues some schools face but would be keen to hear about what it's like at the coal face.

In the interests of getting some solid cross association banter going, I'd say... Take your GPS goggles off QH! :) Pats Joeys 3 (but not by much) Scots Scots 3 Stannies by a whisker Kinross by a bit more and Gregs by not much

Probably best said in another forum, but you can always gauge the strength of a program when it's scholarship free can't you. Always admired Oakhill for this reason.
