I believe that all schools in the Central West have been told not to head over the hill until further notice. Kinross, Stannies, Scots All Saints. Can anyone confirm?

Looking Back - NSW Subbies 2001

Can I ask as to why Dundas Valley were forcibly removed in 2005?

    Australian Schoolboys / Under 18s 2019

I agree with QH -it's not a binary argument - schools and clubs have a role to play in developing Rugby (and all sports), but schools in particular need to remember what they do well (and I'd argue better than clubs) and that's core fundamentals and a game for everyone each week - the...

Perhaps but... It's still not a pathway to a national team, it's the end of the line for that pathway - it's its own thing - not connected to a club, an NRC team, a Super Rugby team or the National program. And not only that, the "do or die on that day" selection policy meant that the team cast...

Considering the open scholarship market within Queensland schools, the thought that they could get their best players into a forward pathway without it impacting too much on the GPS Champs must have been a very attractive scenario. All their players will be fresh, (relatively) injury free and...

In most sports yes. The school pathway ends with a presentation night, nice plaque, a certificate, perhaps some cake. Club pathways lead to National representation in that chosen sport or an NCAA scholarship (or both). There are some exceptions (and I'm very glad that there are exceptions)...

I'm not sure why it's essential that you have to be still at school to get access to a performance pathway? But in any case - I would argue that WA isnt in a position of such strength where they can spread their pathway players across two teams (one school based, the other club based). It...

    Australian Schoolboys / Under 18s 2019

Why is it worrying QH? All of those WA school boys are now playing in the academy team with some early school leavers as well. It's the same group of boys. Edit - link to the WA team list...

    Sydney Subbies 2019

I'd argue that once that set up was up and running, no team would dare want to leave it. Hills may have designs on travelling further afield, but I cant say any of the others would.

You're assuming that the schools would be receptive to such a meeting. It would need to work on the assumption that the schools have the best interests of the game at heart...

Tend to agree with this. If QLD had done a better job of integrating the new system with the old one, I dont think we'd be getting the push back from some pundits on this thread that we are. If the Qld GPS had sent their boys to the school trials there wouldn't be an issue. Perhaps they'll...

And for all we know, that may end up being roughly the same amount of boys who have got there anyway, but you're definitely right - the NSW pathway is refreshingly non partisan and would seem to place what's best for the boys first and foremost. Whether it turns out this way remains to be...

Rod this is just my read of it and could well be not the case - but yes you're right - if they don't get a chance to represent at higher honours then that's just simple bloody mindedness from all those involved. Undoubtrdly there would have been families that have forked out a small fortune to...

If I read the selection criteria correctly, if they aren't already involved in the Queensland Academy - then they don't - they miss out. Would be very keen to hear somebody's first hand experience of what this is looking like in practice.

A good news story in yesterday's Herald from an ISA boy: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/the-next-israel-folau-from-obscurity-to-the-junior-wallabies-20190526-p51rcb.html

    ISA 2019

Due to the relatively small numbers down there, all junior players regardless of school or club, play in the one comp. A marriage of convenience but certainly much easier to manage when there's just the one competition to look at.
