    Trial: Reds v Rebels - Friday 14 February 2014

Rebels team from the newsletter. Most interesting thing is Sean McMahon starting at 6 for me, Ellison has switched to inside centre too. 1. Toby Smith 2. Pat Leafa 3. Laurie Weeks 4. Hugh Pyle 5. Luke Jones 6. Sean McMahon 7. Scott Fuglistaller 8. Scott Higginbotham (C) 9. Luke Burgess 10...

    Trial: Reds v Rebels - Friday 14 February 2014

As I happen to be in QLD at the time I'll be at this one, I get the feeling I'll be the only guy on the hill in rebels merch and expect the odd well meaning spray of warm foamy xxxx gold heading my way. I'm a born and bred expat QLDer with plenty of memories supporting the reds at ballymore and...

    Rebels 2014

One of the EPS players will get a full time spot (probably Leafa) and then there will be another EPS player signed (again, probably another hooker). Not sure about the final squad spot, there was that talk of a 'international' player a while back but nothing since. Squad for the trial match is...

    Trial - Rebels vs Hurricanes - Saturday 8 February 2015 7:30

Rebels team up, most interestingly Ellison in at 13 during the second half and still no Shota. Looks like Steve Faulau might get that EPS spot.

    Rebels 2014

The squad has been announced for the trial too. http://melbournerebels.com.au/news/article/mcgahan-names-side-to-face-waratahs Probably best not to read too much into it but a couple of interesting things stood out: Timani in the second row Luke Jones gets a full game in the second row Colby...

I still think we should throw money at a young talent like Hugh Roach to lure him South. Not only is he very promising at hooker it will rustle the jimmies of many a tah's fan ;)

    Rebels 2014

Agreed, need a few players with experience starting with such a young squad and that's exactly what burgess brings. Also VC has to go to a certain starter, who would be certain starters in this squad? A very rough guess: Smith Shota Pyle Higgers Burgess Ellison Inman Woodward I dare say...

    Rebels 2014

I was thinking the same thing, it's always nice to have a winger with a big boot in the style of Mitchell or Gerard, particularly if the FB doesn't. I imagine Mogg will probably fill a similar role and is up the pecking order but I rate Woodward's chances if he sticks around.

    Rebels 2014

That's terrible news both for him and the rebs, really needed him to step up there. Can we throw a bucket of cash at Hugh Roach before the tahs finally make their mind up on him?

    Rebels 2014

Tucked in at the bottom of this article is the first I've seen mentioned about a 'style change' for the rebels. I suppose it was inevitable but it's a big change in attitude and I hope we don't turn into a dull team to watch...

    Rebels 2014

Lilo has long been talked up as coming down south when his Brumbies contract was up, I think there was even an article not long ago saying something along the lines of he's 'not against' the idea of playing in Melbourne. It's just talk, but in all likelihood the Brumbies are going to lose...

    Rebels 2014

So last I checked we still had 2 spots open in our squad, is that right? So with West and Timani now confirmed as not Rebels that must mean the pickings are pretty slim now. Agree with the sentiment that our forwards will be strongest line up we've fielded yet, at least on paper. However there...

    2014 NZ Super Rugby Squads

Was it announced he was retiring? There certainly have been plenty of signs pointing to that anyway. It looks like Ged has taken up a hooker spot on the EPS at the highlanders. I figured he probably deserved a full squad spot after his performance last year.

The tinfoil hat wearing side of me says that's a subtle hint that Sita Timani may still sign with us. I'm still not sure how I feel about that.

    Rebels 2014

Bit of a shame about Sidey, he was actually coming good at the tail end of last season. He will never be a star but you know what you are getting with him, handy bench and injury cover so I wouldn't have minded seeing him in the squad at all.

    Rebels 2014

While it's good to hear the rehab is going better than expected I would much rather he had a full pre-season than be rushed back underdone into the wobs to patch up the back row.

    Waratahs 2014

Poor Rob Horne, his reward for his best season ever is not being picked in the wallabies squad and being dumped from the Tahs starting 15.

Australia v Argentina, Sept 14th in Perth

It's worth remembering that Link only got the job 2 weeks out from the first Bled, hardly enough time for a full clean out of assistants. An attack coach didn't exist so that was easy enough to fill. I fully expect a few assistants will get the arse come the end of the RC but if not and Link...
