RWC viewing options outside AUS & UK...help for the expat community.

That's outrageous. Maybe it's just too expensive, but you'd think it would be worth World Rugby subsidising broadcast in the US, even if just enough to allow it to be broadcast on cable on a non pay-per-view basis.

    I'm so fucking excited.

World Rugby to introduce law trials

Yeah, I'll admit I've always been on the side of the debate that preferred keeping the existing points systems, but I'm starting to admit that I might have been wrong. The NRC provides some very entertaining rugby.

    The League Media

I imagine Burgess will eventually come back to league. He had a really good thing going on at Souths, and league is his first love. The problem is when people try to extrapolate some over-arching principle from a single point of data like that.

NRC 2015 Beer and Burger watch

No, I haven't tried them. I'll keep an eye out.

NRC 2015 Beer and Burger watch

Worth noting generally - the whole set-up down at Woollahra Oval on the weekend was really fantastic. I watched the rugby while my girlfriend went wine-tasting. Honestly couldn't have wanted it to be any better.

NRC 2015 Beer and Burger watch

Sydney Brewery is also a hefty step-up from the mid-strength Carlton you'd get at most Australian sporting events.

Wallabies v USA Eagles, 5th September, Soldier Field, Chicago

Got to say, it doesn't seem very well organised. Apparently the kick-off time was only released about a week ago.

Yeah I was curious about that. Have you seen any figures?

OPEN INVITE - Posters (people who post) and ideas wanted for G&GR front page

This is a kind of random idea - I don't even know if this is the right thread to be honest, I just searched 'front page'. Michael Pascoe (one of the Fairfax economics guys) is apparently a huge rugby fan. Reckon it would be worth asking him to write up a bit of a spiel about where he sees the...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

This reminds me of something I heard once about rugby in China (I might have even posted it here before). Apparently a few years back China decided that rugby would be one of the sports that they got their military to play (along with about three or four other games) but they realised they...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I wonder about that - those juniors will go presumably go on to play through college rugby, which (from what I can gather) is around the standard of subbies rugby in Sydney. You can have all the numbers you want, but without a proper, competitive grade system you're going to struggle to get them...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Interesting chart - in the 6 to 17 year old bracket, rugby participation in the US doubled between 2009 and 2014 to hit the 300,000 mark. Still tiny compared to all the traditional sports, but those are some really solid numbers. Not that far behind something like ice hockey or lacrosse.

Bledisloe #2 - AUS v NZL, Eden Park, Auckland, August 15th

Can I just confirm the meaning of TGC? I'm guessing it's 'The Great Cheika' or something?

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

What's surprising is that Melbourne was 39K, while Perth was 50K. Clearly huge room for growth in Victoria, if we can ever manage it. I read recently that the anticipated influx of UK expats into Melbourne is expected to grow the game in years to come.

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Plus 73K at the ground. That's not too bad, all up. Not exactly Origin numbers, but not too shabby. Edit: Although 1.1 million people watched a show about cats last night, so...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

From the looks of things (and maybe this is mentioned elsewhere) - it got 372K on Ten, 104K on One and 222K on Foxtel. So 698K all told.

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

The TV advertising during NRL games is going to get crazy now. Tom Waterhouse will probably get to play halfback for the Roosters.
