WLF, it was your logic - 8 cas starters as evidence of unfair treatment. I’m merely addressing your paradigm by pointing out gps only have 6. If it has ceased to be logical since you raised it, I’ll happily bow out here.

Super Rugby Week 17, 2018 - Rebels vs Waratahs - Friday 29 June

And the one on Hanigan? Penalised for other reasons but the neck roll completely overlooked

Does it help to hear that GPS 1 got only 6 in NSW 1 and 2 run on teams?

I can understand disagreeing with some of the selections. I didn’t see the games today but Based on Tues would have had a different squad. But 10 from 15 selected for NSW is not “very poor representation”. I think ISA may have some claim to that with 0 selections in the 1s despite only losing...

I too am astounded by Bryden’s omission. Otherwise, I think the 20 from GPS v 11 CAS is representative of the strength of GPS 2 compared to CAS2. Without counting, I’d hazard a guess the cas boys are all or near all from CAS1, whereas the Geeps are a mix from each of 1 and 2. IMO a number of...

    CAS 2018

That’s a good effort by CAS on a short turnaround, when they left nothing on the paddock v GPS. Says a lot about the mental strength of the boys to get themselves up again to eke out a win against a very good ISA side who probably came in determined to show the selectors that it’s not alll...

    IMO Bolivia has it about right, along with Rollin Maul over on GPS site with these selections: Bell - GPS 1 2 Pollard - CAS 1 3 McLennan - GPS 1 4 Dring - CAS 1 5 Williams - GPS 1 6 Harris - GPS 1 7 Reimer - CAS 1 8 Morretti - CAS 1 9 Tejcek - CAS 1 10 Edmed - CAS 1 11 Bryden - CAS 1 12 Minogue...

I think that’s unfair. Whilst it might have been more measured to bring him through say Blue v White, the lad did not let his team down and looked dangerous a couple of times with limited opportunities. Based on today’s performance, I would question whether other, more illustrious names...

    CAS 2018

I agree with Rod and WLF except that I think Moretti was probably Motm. Very physical in both attack and defence and his speed in cover defence when GPS 15 Mossman looked certain to score was as unexpected as it was impressive. Whilst the CAS backrow definitely outplayed their counterparts...

Sounds like a great start for a NSW pack W88, but the job has to start with CAS v GPS and you’d like to hope the CAS lads could go back to back after an extraordinary 2017 performance.

Thanks SDW. Has the makings of a great match. I would love to see Waves win it for the benefit of CAS v GPS this year and think they are a real chance if they can get off the line quickly in D and work hard at the breakdown to retain and pilfer possession. Btw, what ever happened to Max...

Ref told the Knox captain at start of H2 he was going to heavily scrutinise the Knox scrum given its dominance. Most of the penalties were given well before the 1.5 m was reached. Everything from early engagement to angling in. No such issues in H1.

And Joeys thougt 6 mths ago when they got the word ( by osmosis apparently) “wtf, our boys in the 1s won’t really need a run in first round of the trials - we just be chillin and see what happens and maybe we can sort somethin’ on short notice if needed”. And couldn’t. Joeys? Really?

    NSW AAGPS 2018

Knox left 3 or 4 tries out there with some rust evident after 5 weeks without a match and the second half was a stop start affair after the ref decided to try and even up the scrum context which was being heavily dominated by Knox (thanks to new coach Cam Blades). There were at least 5...

    NSW AAGPS 2018

They have form. Last year their ground was washed out for a trial v Knox. An invitation to play on Knox 1 was rebuffed. As l understand it, no reason was given. Agreed it’s strange behaviour for a school professing to want an invite to the party

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

I’m pleased your lad managed to do so well in all areas. That said, I’d argue it’s more misleading to extrapolate from the exception to the rule. It’s inarguable that, on average, a boy sitting the HSC from say Cranbrook or Knox is likely to do considerably better than one from Waverley...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Depends how you define peer. If it’s simply other schools in the CAS, then I’d agree. If it’s assessed on the basis of academic performance, then you may start to question whether you are getting the same product for 1/3 the cost. Looked at another way, if rugby was the sole priority I’d...

    CAS 2018

Whilst the trend seems clear, it’s not always one way traffic. Sometimes boys start high school playing soccer, see how much the rugby boys enjoy Heaven’s Game and then make the switch in the u14s (if Mum doesn’t veto).
