    Collapsed Mauls

Law 17.6 (g) says "If the ball carrier in a maul goes to ground, including being on one or both knees or sitting, the referee orders a scrum unless the ball is immediately available." A maul that collapses can become a ruck and there is no interpretation required by the referee as to...

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

As we've got a two week break I'm going to cover the following areas in that time from the last two games: 1. Back line attack; 2. Scrum; 3. Lineout; 4. Kicking; 5. Attack shape; 6. Defence

No problem - my lineout analysis later in the week includes examples of TPN getting it right the previous week as well. I must say both throwers have been really good in the last two weeks - I suspect Andrew Blades has been working them hard. Now there are other issues that need to be worked...

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

No, there are tell tale signs so you can decipher what really happened. For example in the first lineout lost, the timing of the throw matches Sharpe and Robinson but not Dennis. It is Robinson that had to run around Timani to move back in the lineout and lift Sharpe (and therefore he has the...

Agree with you WJ - if TPN had thrown those three lineouts there would have been an outcry. Many people tend to make comments based on their perception rather than looking more closely.

If you want to see detail about TPN's lineout issues try this post http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/who-should-be-the-wallabies-starting-hooker/ I'll post the same level of detail regarding Moore later this week. No need for that level of detail last week because TPN threw well in that match

Because before posting I studied the lineouts very closely. I wouldn't have made the post without first checking my facts.

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

The Wallabies lost three lineouts on Saturday. The first was a result of a poor lift by Dennis - throw from Moore was exactly where it should have been but look at Dennis' arms - only half extended, so Sharpe didn't get to the height he should have been at - knock on by Sharpe. The second...

I think Kepu or Slipper at #3 offer more in general play than Palmer, Moore is better in general play than TPN and unless Robinson gets fit, you'd lose nothing with Holmes. Having said that, I think you have to pick your #3 for scrumaging first therefore go with Palmer.

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

Dan Palmer at #3 Stephen Moore #2 Greg Holmes #1 based purely on scrummaging technique.

My son just got odds of $11.00 on the Wallabies at another major betting site. I told him it was still a waste of money!

2012 Rugby Championship Game 2 New Zealand vs Australia - 25 August

I've had a look at some footage of Ben Alexander playing TH this year (I was surprised that he played 40% of his minutes at the Brumbies in 2012 at TH). He has three main issues with his technique. Sets up with his hips too high and when he engages he does not drive his hips down - he just...

    Rugby TV Shows

WJ - it's not just ths year. Barnes at #10 always stands far too deep. If you want to build a team around that then you have to live with the consequences. Every team he plays in at #10 the same thing happens. I'll be surpised if the Wallabies play so deep this week with Quade at #10...

How Did That All Blacks 1st Phase Move Work?

There were only 7 tries scored by the Wallabies in 13 tests in 2011 on 1st phase from any set piece. That includes forwards and backs regardless of whether any move was used or not.

How Did That All Blacks 1st Phase Move Work?

In 2010 after the HK Bledisloe there was 1 in the 4 games played in Europe. (v France) In 2011 there were only 3 in 13 tests. 1 v Italy at RWC, 1 v USA at RWC and 1 v Wales at RWC.

And with the All Blacks providing substantial drive in front of him, he's likely to crumple, fold in or stand up. The only thing that may save the Wallaby scrum this weekend is Crockett at LH opposing Alexander and he has his own issues. If Woodcock or Franks was starting against Alexander it...

How Did That All Blacks 1st Phase Move Work?

No doubt Scarfman. Wallabies did run three first phase moves last Saturday, well 2 1/2. The first one in the 5th minute was the 1/2 because although it came off a lineout, the first phase was a super slow ball so Barnes could get a forward screen set up. Then pass behind the static screen...
