QLD Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2013

I didn't Matt Marsden and Lakehm Aiono playing at the trials so they must have been injured. Two players who would have definitely been in one of the teams. Poor timing for injuries. I think Jake Lyon deserved to get the QLD 1 spot over Alex Mafi. Mafi seems more interested in seagulling...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2013

If the 2012 competition has taught us anything, it's not the team with the most representative players or the most imports that will win.

QLD Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2013

Expect to see a lot of QLD boys in the combined States side with a lot of quality players missing out on QLD selection

    QLD GPS Rugby 2013

New kids at BBC this year: Wilkins, Swain, Tuuga, Laefano, Dempsey, Gunter, Helms and Leyland. Adding on Quick, Sala, Bowen, Peterson and McLean, that means about 10 or more players in their team will be on 'scholarships'. So will the team be: 1. Helms 2. Saunders (is he a hooker or loose...

Morrey's and Aiono's form in the GPS trials was very good. I can see them getting QLD 1 spots. Cox is another shot at QLD schoolboys.

Taipan, who played well in the BGS v Downlands game?

Have the teams already been announced?

QLD Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2013

I'd say he defends at 15 to maximise counter attacking opportunities, like the Reds do with Quade. There are a lot of good flyhalves this year. Top 4 would have to be (in no order) Hamilton, Third, Mack Mason and Josh Bowen (but i think he will play rep at fullback).

QLD Schools - Trial Games and Selections 2013

I agree with Rugbywatch. Hamilton I think has a more developed game than Third; excellent running and kicking game, and his defence is solid (league background). I think Hamilton should get the starting gig for QLD 1, with Third either on the bench or starting for the 2s.

Any more news on the GPS teams? Mitch Third should get the gig for flyhalf for GPS 1, however i think he will face some tough competition for QLD 1 flyhalf from Guy Hamilton (played Junior Austalian 7s) who is a part of the CSS squad.

I take it that new kids Sly and Lanksey didn't trial? Surprised not to see guys like Kemp and Laud in there.

Lakehm is repeating at BGS. If you go back a couple of pages to Taipan's photos of the trial games you will see him. Looks like he ran out as captain. They've moved him to LHP this season so hopefully they have put a lot of time into his fitness. I can see him being one of the premier props in...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2013

I think it's too early to be calling who are premiership hopefuls and who will be the cellar dwellers. Everyone is forgetting that these are TRIALS. Schools are still testing potential players to see if they are First XV standard. The competition is also not a '2-horse race'. NC, TSS, ACGS, IGS...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2013

I think Coach Emtage will most likely play Sly on the wing, in a similar role to Marsden last year (given their similar skill sets). Candidates for the outside centre spot could be Cameron Griffin and Luke Beesley both from last years 16As, or maybe Nyoah Rosmarin who has played some rep footy...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2013

I think you will find that Harry Egan is a second-row/loose forward with no experience at hooker. The person most likely to fill that role would have to be Michael Murray or Tom Spencer. Pat Morrey to 7 and Trey Kemp to 8. Dan Forsyth will play 9 and Halliday will play 10. Outside centre is open...

Landon Hayes has repeated as well. So the 12-13 combo I imagine will be Carlin Anderson and Hayes.

I know from an Ippy Grammar perspective, they have Landon Hayes and Carlin Anderson repeating; as well as Dallas Flanagan (prop) from NSW, Izack Rodda (second row NSW) and Dylan Gale (front row NSW). Latham Takau has left Ippy Grammar and decided to repeat year 12 over in Auckland at King's...
