All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

Yeah, it's a misunderstood point all right. I wasn't trying to be a smart-arse or anything, I just get a bit grumpy when people get the phase wrong, and then wonder why the law relating specifically to the phase is not being enforced. In essence, (a) ball has to be on ground;(b) 1 or more...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

I'm not going to get into this again, but with respect, go and look up the definition of a ruck (Hint, law 16 definitions and law 16.1(b).) If you still think that is a ruck then come back and we can debate it.

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

I should also add that if we are going to get analytical; unquestionably the first offence in that breakdown is green 6(?) who goes straight off his feet and seals the ball off. If you remember way back to the first 3-4 rounds of Super Rugby, refs were getting extremely tough on this but for...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

Well, lets take a look, especially since it is directly on point (well directly in a tangential sort of way :)) This is exactly what is meant by the phrase "taking the space". The alleged offence by McCaw is that although he was entitled to play the ball from the angle he comes from, instead of...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

Yeah you are right. My post was less some great irrefutable argument about the truth of the matter and more about how silly it is to base an argument on the basis of one game. I guess I should have added a smiley or something to make that clear. I do wish we would get back to talking about the...

Here is an opinion on Aussie rugby

The only concern I have about Argentinian's playing en masse in the Super XV is that some who come without having played for the Pumas might find it very tempting to play for their adopted country after only being here for the 3 year stand down. This could end up raping Argentine rugby rather...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

That is a very interesting point. It is interesting that Australia conceded 15 penalties v Argentina; whilst the All Blacks conceded 12 v South Africa and this somehow confirms Scarfman's theory???? In fact, it is just further evidence that: "people are adept at spotting the offences of...

    Rumour: Deans could be gone

So what do you fellas reckon now? Second in the RC, second in the rankings. Horror run of injuries. Master coach it seems. Is there really a compelling reason to get rid of him? (And there is no truth to the rumours that the All Blacks are planning on throwing the final Bledisloe...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

Don't be so quick to leave it. We are having a frank exchange of ideas, truth will out. I am always skeptical of "self-evident" propositions. If they are self-evident then they can bear some scrutiny. In any case like I said before, Blue has promised to collect some clips from last nights...

2012 Rugby Championship R5G1 Springbokke vs Wallabies @ the Bull Ring

For mine the issue for Slipper is that he loses his footing a fraction of a second after going for the ball. Someone asked for stills; here are some I prepared earlier: at (a) 52:25, Slipper is on his feet and legally competing for the ball (b) at 52:25, Slipper is not supporting his body...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

Because we win a lot. An illegal tactic is not going to be spotted by anyone if it is wholly ineffective. Our illegal tactics are effective because we generally win the battle for the collisions. When we don't win the collisions and/or the game we whinge about illegal tactics of the...

All Blacks - From Pillars to Stonewalls

Personally I think KS makes some good points. This thread has been high on rhetoric and low on examples. As for Scarfman's theory that the All Blacks push the law more than other teams, most, if not all of that impression comes from the fact that people are adept at spotting the offences of...

2012 Rugby Championship Round 6 Game 1 South Africa vs New Zealand- 6 Oct

Dominant at scoring tries for sure. We lost a hell of a lot of ball at the breakdowns through penalties though, mainly through doing dumb stuff which was caused by a lack of numbers and application at the breakdown. We got a lot better in the second half but even then there were still plenty...

2012 Rugby Championship Round 6 Game 1 South Africa vs New Zealand- 6 Oct

Up front we are. We have been given a towelling at most breakdowns. Refereeing has reflected that fact as it usually does, rightly or wrongly. I don't think it has been all that bad from Rolland.

2012 Rugby Championship Round 6 Game 1 South Africa vs New Zealand- 6 Oct

This is one of the most bizzare games I can remember. We are getting smashed up, and yet we are winning 4 tries to 1.

2012 Rugby Championship Round 6 Game 1 South Africa vs New Zealand- 6 Oct

Who needs penalties? Actually I thought that one against McCaw was a bit of a roughie, he was the tackler and he got up to look to play the ball. Pretty sure no ruck had formed.

2012 Rugby Championship Round 6 Game 1 South Africa vs New Zealand- 6 Oct

Rolland hasn't been that bad. 1 or 2 things have been a bit odd but we have just been giving away dumb penalties.

I wonder if the last couple of posts are really necessary. We have avoided the nah nah nah that these threads normally end up in, up till this point but we are on the edge now. As Gagger said above, this is not a moral issue.

    2012 – ITM CUP - NZ's 3rd Tier Competition

It's a bit of a shame the Otago v Wellington game was cancelled and all records of it expunged from the record books and memory banks. :(
