24 hours is a long time in the RA board room. My view is that Carroll would be insane to leave the AOC for RA - even if they doubled his salary, or tripled it.

Other than the auditors, who have yet to sign off on it.

The alarm bells about Wiggs started ringing for me when he received the ringing endorsement from Roger Davis. Then to say if you won't let me appoint my mate as CEO, I'm going to resign beggars belief. At least Hawker and Pulver went through a process before the old mates act kicked in...

It not only the dysfunction of the meeting itself, it's also the fact that a blow by blow description of a supposedly confidential board meeting was in the newspaper the next day.

    World Rugby Chairman

It was no surprise to me that the island nations and Japan supported Beaumont and Laporte. 24 years since the islands were excluded from super rugby and no attempt by SANZAR/SANZAAR to include them there or to play regular tests against them. My only surprise was that so many people here...

I'm waiting for Wamberal to come on and tell us how well these corporate chaps are doing and that none of us know what we're talking about.

Daniel Herbert gets an honourable mention for requesting "due process." Then he probably realised that nobody else in the room knew what he was talking about. The meeting would have gone past 3am for him to explain what it meant. Imagine thinking that you should engage an independent...

Not even Shakespeare could dream this stuff up. Forget broadcast rights for games RA need to get Netflix on the line to run a full length mini-series on the antics of the ARU/RA board over the past 20 years. It would outrate anything that could possibly happen on the field.

Nobody can do a corporate train wreck like Rugby Australia. It's the one area in which they are world class.

Which makes me wonder again why Matt Carroll would even consider leaving the Australian Olympic Committee for Rugby Australia. Under the current governance structure it's a complete shambles and nothing short of a large organisational broom to sweep the whole thing clean will suffice...

Nobody is arguing otherwise. How it's done is the issue. No. We put people on the board on the basis of what they are going to do to advance rugby rather than advance themselves. What's their vision. How are they going to put systems in place to achieve it. How are they going to measure...

I would add one caveat which is that most of the ex players who in the professional era gravitate to rugby admin are those in the corporate network. They then become somewhat conflicted as they aren't going to rock the corporate boat as they need to maintain the network to get further board...

I think that Carroll is a good administrator and would probably do a good job. Interesting that he would leave the Olympic movement for Australian rugby, career wise it would seem a step backwards. Joeys old boy and Mosman resident, so at least he's ticked the two most important boxes.;)

Interesting scenario. Wonder why Carroll would want to leave the Olympic movement, on the face of it it seems a much better gig that running rugby.

    World Rugby Chairman

I think that this in part answers your question; https://fijisun.com.fj/2020/05/04/election-of-laporte-as-world-rugby-vice-chairman-augurs-well-for-fiji/

They could almost do the rotation thing now if they wanted to - between them they control 24 out of the 50 votes. If it's going to be an open election as it seems to have become, then it's going to be full of political horsetrading as we've just seen. Pichot was a poor candidate and still...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

ACT becomes Canberra NSW is split into two with a Sydney and a Western Sydney team Qld is split into two with a Brisbane and a non Brisbane team Melbourne is already there Perth or Western both resonate in the west That's 7 teams Fiji/Suva are already in NRC, so that's 8. (Playing out of...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I'm suggesting that in the Australian context state teams play representative matches. Club-based competitions in Australia use city, town or suburb/s to identify themselves. Outside the fairly narrow rugby community, NSW teams are usually known as the blues. Except for those of us old...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I've long said that those with vested interests will fight to their last breath to keep super rugby. What will eventually kill it is going broke.

    World Rugby Chairman

It would seem that not having a chairman from the south hasn't affected the on field performances of international teams from the south.;)
