People keep talking about an Optus "deal" as though it was a complete agreement. There may have been negotiations with Optus (as there should have been and should still be) but nobody other than unnamed sources have said that a deal was done or even imminent. I'd also note that the SMH is...

Why? Don't the SANZAAR countries have separate broadcast deals?

Overnight Foxtel signed a major deal with Warner entertainment giving them rights to Warner Bros and HBO content, so I wouldn't be writing them off yet.

It could be argued that not taking the money, liquidating the whole thing and starting again would be the best thing for the game.

Just because people who live is NSW doesn't mean that they have anything to do with SS. Carroll for example has never had anything to do with SS, he came through subbies with Mosman, JON has a long-standing antipathy for SS, I've never heard of Wiggs being involved with an SS club - certainly...

The ghost of JON is also hovering. Along with his apprentice.

It's a shambles, not sure that the board even knows what's going on. Complete breakdown in standards of behaviour which is hardly surprising given the corporate culture that's evolved over time.

Roger Davis came out and supported Wiggs, so you can join the dots there fairly easily

And let's not forget that all of these board members, including Wiggs, went through the nominations committee process which is supposed to deliver us the best possible board members. Surely this has put to bed forever the idea that rugby can be run on this corporate model where directors are...

    World Rugby Chairman

I wouldn't be giving the governing bodies of the islands cash. If I was WR (World Rugby) I'd be building things for them at best. A board of expats could run teams based in Australia, pay the players direct and use part of the proceeds to fund infrastructure back home.

Even with my generally cynical view of the RA board and its operations, I'm blown away by what's happening. I think this is the next step:

Process is important and it's a decade or more long breakdown in process which has led us to the current point. The game has had too many of these type of mates appointments. None of them have worked out particularly well. In terms of Carroll, I think that he's an excellent administrator and...

The loan from RA was capped at $16,000,000 which would basically cover the loss from last year. The rest of the rugby world must be looking at this shambles and shaking their heads.

If Carroll does end up taking the job, he should be thankful that he didn't get it in the way Wiggs wanted. Nothing would have guaranteed a short and unsuccessful tenure more than being given it by an unscrupulous method of appointment.

    World Rugby Chairman

Although professional corporate boards and highly paid executives are in place to solve problems. The problem was will rather than logistics as shown by the successful inclusion of Fiji in the NRC (too little, too late but something) You solve those problems by basing the teams in Australia...

They could probably get more for the broadcast rights than for super rugby.

What we are seeing laid bare is the shambolic corporate culture that exists at RA and before that the ARU. Nothing good can come from an organisation so bereft of any semblance of due process and fair and open procedures. The precedent of Chairman appointing mates and the board appointing it's...
