Indeed. The idea that the CEO can make decisions such as million dollar court settlements and multi-million dollar broadcast deals on their own initiative is fanciful. Such decisions would be at the direction of the board or with the approval of the board.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Trans-Tasman at the current point in time seems to me as though it's a lose/lose. Nobody really thinks it's a good idea or will be to their advantage. NZ going domestic gives us no choice, and is quite possibly the best thing that the Kiwis could have ever done for us.

I think we can read into this that Fiji will be supporting and voting with the NH in the coming WR (World Rugby) elections. Thanks for coming Augustin Pichot. “Ratu Vilikesa Bulewa Francis Kean (Fiji Rugby Union), nominated and proposed by the Fiji Rugby Union and seconded by the Fédération Française de...

    All-Time Crim 1st XV

He's bypassed the G&GR executive and gone straight to WR (World Rugby). Maybe he could run the judiciary committee? Get rid of all those QCs and just let Frank rip in.

    Wallabies 2020

Agree, the way things are going in Aust and NZ there will be travel between the two countries but borders closed to the rest of the world at least until the end of the year.

    Wallabies 2020

It will be October or November, so quite likely most social distancing measures in Aust and NZ will be gone by then.

    Wallabies 2020

I suspect we won't see much if any test rugby in 2020. The only conceivable possibility at this stage would be a 3 test series against NZ, which would be at the mercy of travel restrictions and quarantine measures. Certainly it would have to be held in the one country, with revenue split...

I'll address the question. I doubt that most Kiwis would sign with an Australian team in a Trans Tasman competition. I suspect the only ones who would would be those who had been cut in NZ and had no opportunities there and came as a last throw of the dice. NB I'm not in favour of a Trans...

No matter what happens next year and at least the five years after that are going to be a massive challenge for rugby in Australia. I actually see this challenge as a massive opportunity, and one which probably won't come again. We have the opportunity to set the foundations for a national...

A comment which NOBODY except for you has ever made. It's one of your old faithful posts when you can no longer argue the case you are making at the time.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It's a dead duck and has been for a while. Coranavirus seems to have finally put it out of its misery.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I don't think that is correct. We are a member of SANZAAR and have a right to participate in SANZAAR competitions as a member. Our only legal obligation to supply teams comes as a result of signing a broadcast deal, which was why the quantum of our funding was up for debate during the last deal...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Well at least we haven't signed a broadcast agreement obligating us to Super Rugby. If anything the decision not to sign is looking better by the day as the unintended consequence is that we have no legal obligation to supply teams and games to a broadcaster in a pan-continental competition...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Unfortunately I think that rugby in Australia isn't big enough to support a super rugby type competition and an NRC, maybe we never were but definitely not now. To me this means Wallabies as the pro rugby and national flagship, followed by a domestic pro or semi-pro league with an enhanced...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I don't have a firm view either way, as long as there's a team representing the western Sydney region. All of the islands have a bigger presence in Western Sydney than anywhere else in the country. Townsville being close to Melanesia and having a reasonably large Fijian population makes that...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

We don't really know what's viable unless we know what the broadcasters will pay for anything. In terms of a general concept, the NRC teams provide a fairly good starting point. I think it's essential that there's a team playing out of western Sydney, so based on an 8 team set-up it could...

This was always the problem with rejecting one bid without another bid locked in. EDIT: And it's highly unlikely that Castle would have done so without board approval.

I agree, except for the Super Rugby bit, it needs to go completely.
