Reds v Highlanders Friday 30th May

Got to love super rugby. Good stuff Reds have a big one enjoy the break!

    Refereeing decisions

I doubt the SANZAR protocols distinguish between true and untrue referee abuse. The thing is the refs aren't allowed the same forum so it's unfair regardless. And it goes against the tradition and spirit of the game.

    Rebel v Tahs, round 15 2014

I've got an idea after seeing Hooper's try. Why don't more attacking flankers kick the ball out of the scrum and then unbind to pick it up? They'd get further than the #8.

NRC Law Variations - have your say

I suggested teams with the worst scrum (collapse) percentage at the end of the competition are deducted of some bonus points. (suggestions link) http://meltwater-fb-1036222.meltwaterrise.com/details

    Western Force 2014

It might be one game too early to say this, but I think 3 wins will get Force into the finals when you consider the Crusaders and Highlanders play each other twice, and the Chiefs play the Hurricanes twice in the last 5 rounds. A BP against the Lions is important though.

    Brumbies v. Blues Rd 8 2014

You are right. Refs don't usually call things that have little impact on play. (as little as that offside anyway) But there are 5 specific things the refs have been told to have no tolerance on, and advancing when in front of the kicker is one of them. SANZAR want the outside backs to have...

    Refereeing decisions

If you want to "enact" rule 10, you just don't post a reply. Telling everyone else that it's time to stop posting is self-defeating. The laws specifically address this scenario, it's not a matter of interpretation or understanding. If an attacking scrum was meant to be awarded in the...

    Refereeing decisions

I think the TMO knew it should have been a drop out, but he was too nervous to over-rule. Stu Berry had a better angle than the camera so he seemed hesitant to go with the balance of probabilities (from the TV screen which suggested a drop out was the correct call). CJ asked for the TMO to...

    Refereeing decisions

Yeah. Shame the screen wasn't working CJ would have been much more decisive in that call on his own.

    Refereeing decisions

Who should replace him? Any GAGR volunteers? Or should we just keep cutting anyone who has a bad week regardless of how good any potential replacement might be. We wouldn't let a coach get away with that, not sure why Lyndon Bray should be pressured into doing it. This has nothing to do with...

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

I agree (that teams infringe less with a ref they know well). This is the entire reason. Some say this is an argument for neutral refs (it's the only valid argument). Some say it's a fact of life.

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

And the idea visiting teams are "always" getting the rough end of the stick in SA due to the fact they are incapable of providing fair match officials has an underlying assumption that there is something about being South African that makes one less likely to be able to be a fair participant in...

    Refereeing decisions

From memory both knees were on the ground and it was the bulls player whose weight brought Higgers to ground, and he still had his arms wrapped around at this point. You could argue he was slipping off and I wouldn't disagree, that's something refs need to look for. I think the on field refs...

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

They do this all the time, refs get promoted and dropped just like players. If you are referring to the photo though, yes I laughed when I saw that.
  15. Bruwheresmycar

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

Well that stat alone isn't going to tell you anything. I have seen lob sided penalty counts in lots of games, most of which one team was persistently infringing and playing with fire at the ruck. I didn't say he didn't have a bad game, I'm saying he'd be an idiot to try and rig a game by...

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

Well have you got a counter argument or is this the "baselessly accuse the match officials of fraud hour"?
  17. Bruwheresmycar

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

It doesn't take a saffer fan to point out that if he was going to rig the game he'd probably do most of the rigging in the first 60 minutes, not the last 10. But let's not let common sense get in the way of a good witch hunt.
  18. Bruwheresmycar

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

He lost a bit of control and his scrums were not set properly (so he might get a bad rating). Other than that he did a good job. Red's just aren't used to a ref actually sticking to his word. And if you watch the game you will notice the Lions actually responding to the ref, while the Reds just...
  19. Bruwheresmycar

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

Ref said the Reds prop is changing his bind over and over. That's a pretty basic error, even U12's refs are told to pull that up.
  20. Bruwheresmycar

Lions vs Reds Rd 6 2014

The Force did it against the highlanders, tough test for the Reds now. Saying that I reckon this guy should ref Reds v Brumbies game! No tolerance for that sort of crap in the red zone. You'd have about 15 yellows though.
