    Wallabies 2023

Exactly, it makes the reactionary decision to sack Rennie look even more foolish. The Wallabies had an incredibly favourable draw and were on an upward trajectory under Rennie, all indicators were pointing to the fact that Wallabies were going to have a massive payoff year in 2023 - thanks to...

Borthwick won England the 6 nations in 2020, remember he left Jones after that season. Eddie only has a 42% success rate since his top assistant Borthwick departed.

Except a more nuanced analysis of Australia & England's performance from the last World Cup cycle reflects a lot more favourably on Rennie compared to Jones. Eddie Jones took England rapidly backwards, while Rennie has arguably brought his side the most measurable improvement post-2019 of any...

    Wallabies 2023

This comment is bang on - can anyone have imagined Cheika & Deans doing any better in his situation? Rennie was the victim of terrible luck & timing, after 2019 a substantial amount of experience left overseas further setting the team back. Jones was correct in highlighting that Rennie has done...

No, Rennie was selecting Lolesio over far better options in his first year in 2020. McKellar joined in 2021. Lolesio was clearly one of Rennie's pet project players, Paisami being another.

If I was Jones I'd be more than slightly pissed that Rennie wasted the entire WC cycle on developing Lolesio as the backup when he doesn't even run his backline at Super Rugby level. Rennie has done a lot of great things to develop depth across the team but my greatest criticism was his putting...

He may not be right now, but he's potentially the archetypical Eddie Jones No.10 or 12. Combining different characteristics & attributes of Matt Giteau, George Ford, Owen Farrell, the closest thing you get in Australia currently is Hamish Stewart followed closely by Tane Edmed.

    Wallabies 2023

Giteau was in his 30's by then & Stewart is only 24. Plenty of time to become a Wallabies mainstay.

Eddie will pick him, Hamish Stewart is basically Matt Giteau V2, with better defense. both are same height, both wear scrum caps, etc..

Stewart and Edmed are the two best defensive 10's, they are tackle machines alright. I think Stewart could well be the 10 Eddie goes for post-Cooper, he controls a game & can impose himself on defence. He's in a similiar mold to Owen Farrell.

Smith is an out-&-out 10 though, Lolesio is more of a centre playing at 10. White and Simone did most of the playmaking for the Brumbies. I can't see Eddie picking him, in the recent podcast Edmed & Donaldson were mentioned but not Lolesio, I guess we'll find out later whether that was an...

Lolesio. Eddie won't tolerate 10's who can't manage a game. Eddie he has a history of wanting proper game managers, players with a lot of game understanding and intelligence at 10. Edmed ticks all the boxes that Lolesio doesn't.

All I've got to say is good riddance to the individual who rid us of the best Wallabies coach of the last 20 years.

No, White always coveted the Wallabies job, the reality is after the player power bros flexed their muscles no one but Cheika was getting the job after Beale/Patson. Pulver as expected caved to the 'Australia coach at all costs' mindset & settled for a vastly inferior coach to White.

    Wallabies 2023

Can't disagree with much of that. I also believe Jake White should've got the job over Cheika when Link resigned, you can understand why they went for an Australian, but Jake would've surely left the Wallabies in a better state than Cheika did in 2019, plus his high-percentage, low risk rugby at...

    Wallabies 2023

Well Razor said he wants to win a World Cup with 2 nations - so after he down-trousers Eddie at home with NZ in 2027 (meaning the toxic toad gets demoted to Woman's rugby) he can take his job as Wallabies head coach in 2028...

    Wallabies 2023

So does that also apply to Robbie Deans considering the massive injury list Wallabies had in his final few years? Were all the injuries the Wallabies experienced between 2011-2013 a direct consequence of his management style?
  19. rodha

    Wallabies 2023

Exactly! It's like everyone is disregarding his recent results... with a superior talent pool. England won 5/14 matches in 2022 (5/15, if you include the embarrassing Barbarians loss). Rennie won 5/15 in 2022 with a much worse talent pool & over 2/3rd's of his best team unavailable! Borthwick...

    Wallabies 2023

Clearly Dave Rennie wasn't such a keen subscriber of the JOC (James O'Connor) redemption arc.. I still can't get over how he somehow decided to unceremoniously yeet JOC (James O'Connor)'s international career out the window & all that leadership accumulated from his Red's experience after 1 bad game - one of which he barely...
