    Australian Rugby / RA

Something I'm curious about is what is RA budget for player payments?

Super Rugby Rd 2: Rebels v Hurricanes

That's a trend in contact sports not just Rugby. But it is important that we look to develop local pathways in both Victoria and WA as a means of reducing the reliance on Sydney and Brisbane to produce talent.

Super Rugby Rd 2: Rebels v Hurricanes

The existence of the Rebels certainly would have helped keep talent in the pathway. They've underperformed in their time but they have been successful in developing an increasingly fruitful local talent pool. Which is something that's very much needed and should be further fostered in both...

Super Rugby Rd 2: Rebels v Hurricanes

Watched it alongside the Panthers/Broncos game. One was so so and the other one was pulsating. Guess which was which. Could Super Rugby be back?

Super Rugby Rd 2: Rebels v Hurricanes

Same for the Savea steal. Where are the AR's or dare I say it. The TMO in those moments. I hate their intervention for silly things but something like that....

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) Round 1 25/02/23 Force v Rebels

Honestly, I don't really care about the number of ineligible players they've got. The primary goals for the Force should be to 1) be competitive. If that means signing foreign talent then so be it and 2) provide a pathway for WA players to professional Rugby. Same for Melbourne. If the only...

    Women's Rugby

It's more than most of the girls playing NRLW will be making for the next few seasons. But it will need to improve.

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

It was noted earlier on the game thread that the lineouts and scrum were not actually being enforced to the 30 seconds. Closer to a minute for most. Which is on the officials. They have to enforce the new variations. Watching the MP (Moana Pasifika)/Drua game and there is an emphasis on keeping to those...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

Fokoeti was very good imo as well. Particularly having to create most of his own space when with the ball. A 12/13 pairing of him and Ikitau certainly would work well. Gleeson also added a lot when he came on. He identified the mismatch between big and small with Muirhead that allowed him to...

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

Our discipline was the killer. Several silly penalties gifting points to the Brumbies being the difference.

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

I had a look up and it looked like a decent number of people up on the upper tier. Couldn't give you an accurate estimate but the side I was on was pretty full.

Super Rugby Rd 1: Waratahs vs Brumbies Friday, 24th February

The bottom bowl was pretty full. As were the stands above on the side the players come out.

Having no NRC is better how?

I'm not against Super Rugby A comps but if we're sticking with SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) then I would like to SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) across the board including A, U20s and Womens. Outside of the A comp you wouldn't necessarily have to run the U20s and Womens along the same schedule to start (though I'd prefer it) instead running something...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Soccer is pretty established as a professional sport. I'm not sure any increased investment will deliver the return many assume. Much of the fanbase there are as invested in the international game as they are the MLS and national team.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

They do care but it's not their main priority. There was an interview with one of the Seattle owners leading into the season where he mentioned that there are currently 6 groups in the process of bidding and that leading into 2031 the collective group will have spent $1b with investment and...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I think you're be disingenuous to the development of Chilean Rugby there. They've always had the base to push to become Sth Americas 2nd best team. But never had the pieces in place to make that step. Now they have in the establishment of soon to be two HP centres with a base of 50 players. On...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

MLR kicked off over the weekend with a new league attendance record being set with San Diego hosting Utah in front of 11400 spectators.

    Waratahs 2023

If it resembled something akin to the NRC (where NSW and Qld ran two squads) but ran alongside Super Rugby that would fit the bill. Yes, it takes players out of club Rugby but it's something I think is very much needed. That or considering we seem to be committed to SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) then a SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) B wouldn't go astray.

    Waratahs 2023

Not this season they won't. The only players from yesterday that made a case for themselves were Dowling and Wilson. Sinclair and Nadolo will be given opportunities based off previous seasons/reputation but outside of that the rest need more time. A lot of the performance against the Two Blues...

    Waratahs 2023

No where near the energy of the first 40. And it showed in the result. I know these guys are wider squad members and back ups etc. but I expected those involved in HP set ups to perform better. I guess the heat played a bit of a factor.
