Covid only accelerated the timing of the outcome, not the outcome.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

At least we know that RA don't have the skills to either create a commercially viable competition or even oversee the establishment of franchises as can be seen from the ARC and the NRC. Giving them a 3rd shot would be destined for a similar result. Essentially, it's not in the interest of...

    Australia domestic rugby 2020

I agree, and also it will get the ball back into play quicker which increases fatigue. How often do we see a 5 metre attacking scrum and all of a sudden one of the defensive props is suddenly on the ground with a cramp or a sore shoulder? We then all stand around a couple of minutes until the...

    Australia domestic rugby 2020

I think that's going to be how it goes. Whether it makes for a better game is to be seen. I think they could have done something in other areas instead of just relying of kicks, but it is what it is and we'll have to see.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The paradox being that 3 or 4 teams (or even 5 IMO) isn't going to capture the interest of the Australian public beyond the hard core rusted on. It would simply be a rugby version of the Sheffield Shield with state entities providing a high level of competitive games for the national team...

RA sending up the distress flare perhaps? :)
  8. Quick Hands

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Perhaps you're right. We won't know until we've seen it in operation. This will be quicker potentially as the ball is already in the in goal area. Bear in mind that the kick can be taken from anywhere in the in-goal area, it's not like league under the posts so the ball could be passed...

If we're going to trial something, these games seem the ideal time and context to do so.

Apparently the new law variations were developed by the super coaches in conjunction with senior players. https://www.rugby.com.au/news/2020/06/12/super-rugby-au-law-changes

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Without necessarily agreeing with the changes, my assumption is that the thinking is to get the ball back into play more quickly. The defending side will be able to take the line drop out quickly and it would be in its interest to do so before the attacking players can get back into position...

    Australia domestic rugby 2020

I didn't say I agreed with the decision.:) EDIT: But from what I can see it's a method of speeding up the restart. What league has shown us with its 6 again change is that keeping the play continuous and/or getting it straight back into play has a significant impact in terms of fatigue and...

    Australia domestic rugby 2020

I assume that the reason behind #2 is to give the added advantage to the attacking team. I assume that the purpose of #1 is to get rid of the 5 metre scrum, but still give the attacking team territory and a chance of possession - not saying I necessarily agree with it. Seems odd that you get...
  15. Quick Hands

    Australian Rugby / RA

The best thing about a PE domestic league is that RA would have very little to do with the day to day operations.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I haven't quoted your whole post to save space. You've summarised the paradox in which we find ourselves after a decade or more of disastrous strategic decisions and non-decisions. What works in the Australian sporting market is a national domestic competition with teams identifying with...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I suspect what they'll see will be polar opposites. SRA will rate its backside off. There'll be 5 men and a dog watching SRAU.

TT would only be more valuable to PE if the same company had a stake in the whole thing. If there was a split ownership structure then one assumes decision making becomes more problematic and complex.

This is also what I have heard.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think that the added advantage to this calendar from a SH perspective would mean that the players would have a good 6-8 week break from games and contact training during December and January and then the Wallaby squad would have a solid 2 month preparation in February and March for April tests...
