    ARU Strategic Plan

I agree that in a situation where there are no major changes in your organisation your plan would run 5-10 years but when an event occurs that significantly changes your organisation (planned or not) it's time to re-set the strategic plan. That event occurred for the ARU at the end of 2009...

    ARU Strategic Plan

He did but I think he might have got his decades matched up - there was a bit of press coverage about a 2007 plan and the ARU annual reports talk about plans around 2003 RWC and beyond.

    ARU Strategic Plan

In the latest G&GR podcast George Gregan told Matt that the ARU board was working on an updated strategic plan and it had been a while since the last update. In commenting on the announcement of John O’Neil’s resignation Michael Hawker said he “has achieved the key objectives of a five-year...

    Hooper stats looking good

No Sully, you were right - no wins for Timani at the lineout. The Wallabies threw one lineout to Timani v Wales (the one in the photo in 50th min of 3rd test) but it wasn't a win as Tatafu's throw was called for not being straight. No lineouts thrown to him in the TRC.

2012 Rugby Championship R5G1 Springbokke vs Wallabies @ the Bull Ring

Having watched the scrums very closely in the TRC I agree than Robinson is improving each game. Still a way to go but positive signs. The problems are still on the other side of the scrum despite people talking up Alexander - I've seen none of the improvement claimed.

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

And that natural course would provide a smaller third tier competition that is probably needed. However no club's position in existing club competitions would be lost and any club could change course at a any time and spend the money to develop their program and playing roster to aim for...

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

Not negative - I also think it would be ideal to have a significantly smaller competition. However if the clubs won't support that, isn't it better to implement something rather than have a better solution on paper that no-one can implement. I also think that the proposed division one will...

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

IS, I'm just guessing on the $50k number but I think some clubs could and would spend more than that to bolster their playing ranks to win the comp (particularly in Sydney). Is that a good or bad thing? My view is that a market based solution is going to improve our standard of rugby. There...

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

That definition of third tier would probably be ideal but if you don't get the clubs onside I think any third tier / national compettion will fail. Reducing the number of teams down means some teams will miss out of the competition altogether and I don't think clubs will approve of that...

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

Understand your theory but that would mean asking some clubs to vote themselves out of the competetion, which is unlikely to happen. Having two divisons is a bit of a halfway step. Some clubs would still have to vote themseleves out of division one but they have a shot at getting into...

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

I don't know what Sydney teams are paying players in the Shute Shield now so am probably not the best to comment on player payments. Obviously would have to be commercial so if you're going to allocate $50,000 to extra player payments for a nine week competiiton, you'd have to find a...

A Proposal For A New Third Tier Competition In Australia

How does 148 games each year in a new third tier competition at a cost of only $160,000 sound? Find out how I think it can be done at http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/a-proposal-for-australias-third-tier-competition/

2012 Rugby Championship Round 4 Game 2 Australia vs Argentina - 15 Sep

I had a detailed look at that particular lineout this morning when doing a review. The problem was poor timing from TPN. Thrown to the front it should have been thrown once the jumper had left the ground (jump-throw) but TPN threw it when Samo was still on the ground. Didn't go through...

Kane Douglas played like a true test match lock. Haven't watched that much of him but he got my attention tonight. Talk about grabbing an opportunity with both hands.

Woodcock chooses to be a Highlander in 2013.

And there's where we're getting it wrong in Australia - set piece work is more important than ability around the field. We only have to look at the AB's to learn a lesson. Of course that's not to say it's the only thing to make a selection on but you have to have a solid set piece platform to...

2012 Rugby Championship Round 4 Game 2 Australia vs Argentina - 15 Sep

Rewatched the Pumas v All Blacks game tonight - it wasn't until the Puma's lost their #6 to a yellow card in the 60th minute that the All Blacks started to get on top. Until then it was 9-5 and Pumas were right in it. Once they had to use their bench they also suffered in comparison to the...

    Qld Premier Rugby 2012

That shot is only one still frame from the video. Having watched the video of the match it was Freney who was on the legs whilst the other player made contact on the ball - he wasn't the one who tipped him up. There's no issue identifying the second player from the video but he didn't deserve...

    Qld Premier Rugby 2012

QRU suspension guidelines are clear - no question of intent to be taken into account. Guidelines say 1-3 weeks for a less serious tackle and 4-8 weeks for a 'more' serious tackle without defining what 'more' means. Only way to argue for no suspension would be to argue that it wasn't a red...
