    Penalty was the right call.

OK now Ireland don't take the foot off the gas. You're still behind.

Win or lose from here I'm delighted for Luke Fitzgerald. Such a tallented player but his career is littered with injuries.

Argentina took every point on offer to them with the exception of one penalty. I'd be pretty happy with the score if I were them. The drop off in the 2nd quarter would worry me though. A start to the second half like the first and those worries will evaporate. They'll be over the hill and out...

RWC QF 3 IRE v ARG (Millenium Stadium) 18th Oct 2300 AEDT

An early try for Ireland in the second half and this looks doable. Any kind of score from Argentina first and it's back to mountain climbing.

We're finishing the half better but we're not scoring points.

Argentina aren't getting clean ball at the lineout but crucially Ireland aren't pinching their ball thus far.

Ireland coming back well now. But it's a huge effort just to get within striking distance. Taking a lot out of the team. If we do manage to sneak ahead we need to stretch it out as Argentina will steam back into the game once the Irish tiredness kicks in.

RWC QF 1 WAL v RSA (Twickenham) 18th Oct 0200 AEDT

Gatland is in that phase where working harder seems like the only solution. Wales need to work smarter and that realisation will only come with a fresh set of eyes at the top. Doing the wrong things better is not the solution.

I too hope Henderson has a big game but without O'Brien we need other forwards to step up and carry ball too. O'Connell carried his fair share of ball too. So we've swapped those two for a Ferris like ball carrier and a fetcher. We don't want to end up like England where it was give the ball...

Hey Kevin. Great first post. Welcome to G&GR. For the most part they're a friendly and knowledgeable bunch around here.

Should have saved that suggestion for the awfully named TRC.

RWC: IRE v FRA (POOL D) Mon 12th@2:45am

Fofana never seems to play well with Bastareaud. PSA won't drop Bastareaud and one of the most tallented centres in Europe continues to be wasted so that a crash ball merchant can drive beyond the gain line and get turned over.

It doesn't look good for Seanie.

That's the big difference for me compared to previous Ireland teams. There isn't a massive step down when you go outside the match day squad. Obviously the guys you've mentioned are pretty special players and I'd rather have them in the team than not. But the guys who'll come in are the core of...

Next week is the big test for Ireland. The tag of favourites never sits well with us. It's something Schmidt has worked hard to get the team to shake. But it's so deeply ingrained in the Irish psyche. If we do manage to get through next week. Then going into a semi final as big under dogs...

I was in France for the disaster that was Ireland's 2007 RWC. Today is a measure of revenge and we have the chance to complete the job against Argentina in the 1/4 final. The Pumas will be no pushovers and we'll have to play as well if not better.

Just a point from earlier in the thread, I think it's pretty clear whose fans travelled in the greater numbers today.
