    Six Nations 2016

Scotland had a good team on paper but they didn't produce a display to be proud of. It was all too easy for England. It was a close game on the scoreboard but Scotland never looked like scoring a try. Scotland will definitely play better in subsequent games and I expect them to knock over at...

RWC 2015 Semi Final 1 - NZ vs RSA Twickenham

It was a pretty competitive game. The 10 point swing at the start of the second half was crucial. SA got back within touching distance but never looked like they were going to go back in front. ABs closed the game out really well.

The good thing is that when you think of the likes of Gilroy, Cave, Maddigan, Jackson etc. There are plenty of players around who would probably be more comfortable playing with ball in hand. Also on the point of players adapting styles and improving their skills. Trimble is a prime example of...

RWC QF 4 AUS v SCO (Twickenham) 19th Oct 0200 AEDT

Don't agree with World Rugby's stance on this. If they want to have an official public review of Ref performances at test level. Fair enough do what just about every other sport would do. Wait for things to calm down and announce it a few months after the RWC and apply it to future performances...

Also it might be a tangential discussion but it won't be too long before it becomes clear that it's no longer a NH v SH development race. It's a Europe v Rest of the World development race. Japan is a long way from the SH and they won't be the last NH nation outside of Europe that follows a...

The Leinster academy and supporting junior set up churns out those kinds of players by the bucket load. But the obsession with big units has seen they overlooked in favour of power players like Dave Kearney who have lower skill levels and less attacking nouse. Guys like Zebo, Fitzgerald, Earls...

The kicking game is a nice string to our bow but I agree it shouldn't be the basis of our play. We have players with a natural ability in the air but when you're predictable the opposition can set their defence. That leaves us a very slim margin of error. Then the fact that we leave our pacier...

RWC QF 3 IRE v ARG (Millenium Stadium) 18th Oct 2300 AEDT

Yeah and that's one of the major problems with Irish rugby. We need to be more open to new ideas and a variety of styles. No matter the game plan if you've only got one then the opposition will figure you out eventually. That's what the ABs do so well. They continually adapt and they play...

On the playing styles there's no doubt in my mind that the attirtional plodding style does suit the conditions up north. But teams like Leinster under Cheika and Schmidt have shown it's possible to not only play attacking rugby but to be very successful while doing so. It's riskier but if a...

It actually happens pretty often after a barnstorming display. We seem to start the next game slowly. Normally our defence keeps us in touch but when it doesn't we have no answer with our current tactics.

The problem with Ireland isn't necessarily the skill levels it's the cohesion. It takes at least a season of International rugby to bed in a major tactical change. A lot of very talented Wallabies were dropping the pill last year as they adapted to Cheika's attacking philosophy. Ireland need...

Hopefully they didn't play their final tonight and can make a real game of the SF.

RWC QF 3 IRE v ARG (Millenium Stadium) 18th Oct 2300 AEDT

That's the problem with Ireland and it was the problem with Australia until this year too. If your game plan relies on individuals for you to be dangerous then they can be targeted. If it's your systems that creates the danger for the opposition than that's much harder to stop. Not saying good...

RWC QF 3 IRE v ARG (Millenium Stadium) 18th Oct 2300 AEDT

We got back within 3 and that's as good as it got. We didn't score to level or go ahead when we had the momentum and Argentina took heart and then took it how in style.

RWC QF 3 IRE v ARG (Millenium Stadium) 18th Oct 2300 AEDT

Yeah I've said it a few times. Our tactics rely on us being ahead or it being a tight game. We're not built to chase teams down or to pull away from teams, unlike Schmidt's Leinster.

Well done Argentina. No complaints about the defeat they were the better team on the day. Played some lovely rugby. Best of luck in the SF.

Big difference between getting the rub and a ref trying to hand you the game though.

If he is he's doing a poor job. Hand a chance to red card Herrera and didn't take. Almost a Cuthbert like performance.
