    Wallabies 2023

This conversation is getting split over a couple of threads, but... I think Lolesio needs to be viewed as the RWC 2023 fly-half now, and given opportunities based on that. I don't mind taking Foley on the EOYT to share some of the load with Lolesio - they can swap the 10 and 22 jerseys...

Australia A v Japan XV matches

Is there a 10 who looks good against tough competition with a retreating pack? Donaldson's never been tested against England, Sth Africa, or NZ, which makes him look better.

Australia A v Japan XV matches

Surely not. Noah still needs time in the saddle.

SRP (Super Rugby Pacific) 2023 General Chat

Remarkable that either Edmed or Donaldson, despite looking comfortable at Aus A level, could be third on the depth chart at 10 for the Tahs next year. And that wouldn't even include the fly-half who took the Tahs to the Super Rugby final early in his career...

    Wallabies 2023

And where do I find the 2020 AFL GF, if I'm in regional Victoria?

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Amazing that a major studio/channel wouldn't have this sorted out in about 5 minutes. That's been a problem for 12 months now?

    Wallabies 2023

Does Rugby Australia keep track of ex-pat players at all? Or is that just up to the relationship between player, agent, and Super franchises? Given the Super franchises can't catch every young player with potential, maybe we need to improve the relationship with those fringe players who will...

    Northern Hemisphere Rugby

Pretty sure Navy SEAL training has nothing on Eddie Jones' baseline level of intensity.

    Refereeing decisions

Any feedback on the scrum clock trialled at the NSW-ACT game on the weekend?

    Waratahs 2023

I disagree that the season's too short. One of the best features of the Super 12/14 era was the intensity of the comp - if you wanted to be in the (4 team) finals, you could barely afford to drop a game. When it blew out to the Super 18 era, the season was long and meandering - individual games...

Bledisloe 2. Eden Park, 24th Sept 7.05pm NZT. 5.05 pm AEST, 3.05 WA

Well, the Wallabies outperformed my prediction. Doesn’t make it feel any better. Ardie didn’t need to have a huge game.

The heart wants what it wants, but I’m going for Ardie Savea 14, NZ 40, Wallabies 13.

    Refereeing decisions

Great if it's caught quickly and accurately on the spot. But how accurate are the ref and TMO when they have 1-2 minutes max to make a decision? When these things go to the judiciary, it's not unusual for the hearing to go for a couple of hours, endless reviews of the footage, plus extra...

    Refereeing decisions

It's somewhat reassuring to know that every sport finds video refereeing frustrating: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/massive-control-issues-how-much-longer-will-the-nrl-tolerate-the-bunker-20220912-p5bhdi.html

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

I am a little worried about proposals to ban tackling until 13 yo, or thereabouts. Having players first learning to tackle at 13 years old means they are much larger than 7-8 year olds, who are currently the first to tackle. A much greater chance to get it wrong and cop a serious blow at that...

    Waratahs 2023

Maybe I've been listening to The Grade Cricketer podcast too much, but Bernard wearing Wallabies kit to a Tahs training session seems like a strong alpha move, especially when he's opposing Tane Edmed.

Wallabies v Springboks II, Allianz Stadium 7:35pm 03/09/22

It took the SA players half a season to adapt? It only took Rassie 57 minutes to sort out Test refereeing…

    Shute Shield 2022

Yes. If the options are drop goal from 20 m in front, pass left with a possible overlap, or keep recycling waiting for a penalty, I think the droppie is the best of the three in most situations. We might criticise Edmed for trying to win it himself, but I have to respect a skipper and 10 who...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Yes, I think SA Rugby did a deal with their broadcaster where the payment for Super Rugby was small, but they paid a fortune for the Currie Cup. So SA Rugby only had to share a small portion of the rights, and kept the Currie Cup payment. Nice move. RA will need to keep an eye out for that.

    Waratahs 2023

What's worse, Reg? That David Wilson's sons have signed for the Tahs, or that Harry called NSW his "home state"?
