Yep, he was a Canterbury man. He had a very intense personality and got wound up about Deans. This was back in the mid eighties, I knew very little about New Zealand rugby, I had just returned to Australia after a long spell in Asia.

I recall that one of the criticisms made about Deans was that he expected his backlines to back themselves - "play what's in front of you". Whatever that means.

If that was a commonly held...

    Waratahs 2023

I am pretty sure that RA would only sign him on a long term contract. There would be no point otherwise.

He was also a very good tactician. He fooled the English into believing that we were going to run them off their feet in the 1991 RWC, and we did the opposite.

Interesting that the discussion about coaches overlooks Bob Dwyer. He was pretty successful.

    2022 GAGR POTY

Let's hope we can keep them both in Wallaby colours for the next, say, 12 years?

Marky Mark (Nawaqanitawase) would be the greatest Sevens player of all time if he wanted to go in that direction.

Tim Anstee, if he can bulk up a bit without losing speed, could be a smoky.

    Wallabies 2023

Tim Anstee would be a rank outsider. But if he has managed to bulk up a bit while retaining his mobility, who knows?

    Wallabies 2023

If Latu manages to get back to his best, and stay there, he would be the best of them. Big IF!!!

Can we please learn how to run the clock down, like the grown ups do?

Errr, yes. But it did work, because we won the game.

    It worked, though, didn't it?

I thought Hanigan was good value when he came on.

If he Waratahs play him there. Maybe.

Arguably they both had a lot more playing experience. This kid is just starting out, barely out of park footy.
