    Shute Shield 2021

IMO it's just a waste of time. I doubt the captains ever say much about what the ref's warning because everyone knows what the problem is. The players should know the laws and when a ref tells the captain "another infringement in the red zone and it will be a card" I reckon all the players...

    Shute Shield 2021

Could someone at Souths please provide their captain with a Rugby Law book so he doesn't have to ask the referee to explain every decision he makes? And also, can we please stop this nonsense of refs telling captains to go and talk to their team when they give a warning --- just speak loudly...

    Shute Shield 2021

Agree with you on both points. I was yelling at the TV --- "take the bloody points"! The best weapon Souths had was the scrum, but what was the point of just packing another scrum every time they got a penalty? They eventually, of course, defused their own weapon by forcing uncontested. The...

Just watched Souths v Norths. Does anyone know why Norths had to drop to 13 players after a front rower was yellow carded? Is that because they didn't have another front rower and had to go uncontested scrums?

    Shute Shield 2021

I thought it would be interesting to check the Player Points from all the teams in round 1 --- this was supposed to even out the competition by putting a 100 point cap on each first grade team: Uni 37 v Hunter 83 Easts 92 v Souths 51 Woods 82 v 2Bs 15* Wests 38 v Wicks 60 Pen 29* v Norths 42...

    Shute Shield 2021

Agree with your comments, but I'd point out that a key strength of both the NRL and AFL is their ongoing presence on free-to-air, both in Oz and overseas. Granted not all games, but 3-4 every week.

    Shute Shield 2021

Well done STAN but it's a pity (for fans and Rugby) that the SS is not on free-to-air. First time in living memory. The Wicks only have a handful of players left from last year (7's, o/s, etc). Hope the new recruits and promotions from Colts can fill the gaps. Up the Wicks!

    Shute Shield 2020

Wicks missing some key players yesterday --- Longbottom, Miller, Poidevin. Added to Tauakipulu, Hutchinson and Croke all with long term injuries, I believe. But still could have won with better goal kicking. Interesting that the 2 ex-Wicks players (Stoltz and Edmed) contributed 18 of Woods...

    Shute Shield 2020

Wicks defence is getting the job done. Conceded just 23 points (3 tries) in 6 games and no opposition has reached double figures yet. Yesterday Souths spent long periods in Wicks 22 area but couldn't breach the defence.

Two Blues held Randwick to 0-0 at HT and an upset looked on the cards --- they always lift against us. But the first try shortly after HT saw the floodgates open. Locky Miller yellow carded again and then received a caution --- lucky to not receive a second yellow ==> red. Needs to improve his...

Locky Miller has been rightly exonerated. No blame to the officials, it looked bad, but thanks to Cluch TV it was obvious that it was just an accident.

Yep, my mistake, it was Miller who was sent off (I've edited my post)

    Shute Shield 2020

I'm obviously biased, but having watched the replay on Cluch TV, I'd suggest Locky Miller was unlucky to be sent off. The Rats winger seemed to jump in the air to loft a pass infield just as Miller attempted a front on tackle and the much taller winger just fell over the top of him. No lifting...

Anyone know what the crowd situation is at Lidcombe and Drummoyne Ovals? Can you buy a ticket at the gate?

    Shute Shield 2020

Great defensive effort by The Wicks --- best for years. Locky Miller was red carded for a tip tackle 13 minutes into the 2nd half but Wicks defence held the Rats out -- Rats didn't score again for the rest of the game. Wicks also lost Horwitz to injury in the 1st half and Hutchinson in the 2nd...

    Shute Shield 2020

I'm assuming all the grounds are "sell outs" due to the crowd number restrictions and the requirement to pre-sell tickets ie no walk ups.
