    Qld Premier Rugby 2013

He was very impressive - will score plenty more in Premier Rugby this year.

If the ball only touched the advertising sign, a quick lineout is allowed. Law only says it can't be touched by another player.

    The Use Of The TMO

I think the increased use of the TMO is a real positive - it helps reduce the possibility of a "howler" determining the outcome of a game and it's not taking too long to get decisions. Most of the instances I've seen it used have been to check specific issues the referee or assistant referees...

    Wallabies Watch

Qwerty, I liked your comment and then thought, shouldn't we say "before or during the Wallaby season"

    Penalty Magnets

Oh, forgot to add him to the query I wrote - he's right up there with 7 penalties despite only playing 42% of minutes for the Force!

    Penalty Magnets

Without looking at every penalty, who knows. Regardless of whether the penalties were warranted or not, the Reds numbers are too high in the forwards and is an area that needs to be improved.

    Penalty Magnets

I've edited the list above to include percentage of minutes played for their respective teams (in brackets).

    Qld Premier Rugby 2013

I understand that Sunnybank had claims for a match winning penalty try denied in the last minute when they were driving a maul 2-3 metres out from the line, moving forward and despite repeated warnings Uni collapsed the maul. Penalty was awarded but no card or penalty try. Anyone see the...

    FORCE v REBELS R8 2013

Was Richard Brown injured? He's been playing well recently. Lynn and Wykes haven't been terribly impressive. I've been expecting more from Wykes. The Force need to get more out of their forward pack to achieve some front foot ball.

    Penalty Magnets

There's been some discussion in other threads as to who are the penalty magnets amongst forwards in Australian teams. Here are the forwards with the highest numbers after 7 rounds (according to Sportsdata): G.Holmes - 10 (82%) S. Higginbotham - 9 (96%) E. Quirk - 8 (97%) B. Mowen - 7 (100%)...

How Many Lineout Jumpers for the Wallabies Against the Lions?

Douglas was pretty ordinary last night - hopefully just one poor game because with MMM now in serious doubt, Douglas will be needed.

Hurricanes vs Waratahs Saturday 6th April

It was a really entertaining match to watch and no doubt the Tahs had a good crack. It was a bit like a big sevens game - end to end action. I like what the Tahs are trying to do but I think that if they don't make some changes to the game plan, we'll all continue to be entertained but the...

    Qld Premier Rugby 2013

I went out to watch Uni play Sunnybank yesterday. It was a highly entertaining game, although I had to leave early so missed the last 25 minutes which must have been great to watch because when I left Uni were up 39-17 and Sunnybank fought back to close to 41-46 by the end. The match was...

What's Happened To The Brumbies Offloading Game?

In their first three matches this season the Brumbies were averaging 9 offloads per match. Then in their match against the Sharks they offloaded 22 times, although 18 of those were in the first half when they played some of the best attacking rugby we've seen for a while. Since then the...

Recording and Using Statistics For Rugby

Agree - I know of very few coaches at age level who get into detailed stats.

Recording and Using Statistics For Rugby

Hugh, those two examples you re-posted from IIWII are are both questionable. Anyone looking at stats for league would know that stats are also kept for which side teams attack towards. Any coach or analyst looking at stats for one player in defence would compare them to the work rate of other...

How Many Lineout Jumpers for the Wallabies Against the Lions?

If your alternative #6 is Mowen, MMM appears to have more pace. He also appears to have more pace than Dennis but not as much as Higgers (although I don't think even of them should be in the mix). Sharpie called for MMM at #6 last night on Rugby HQ on the basis of his pace and size that could...

Recording and Using Statistics For Rugby

Keeping stats live is hard work, particularly if you want to record players. If you're standing on the sideline and you want to record breakdown involvements you've got to be able to pick up which player was involved (which is hard with bodies in the way), look down and record that, then often...

    Rugby TV Shows

Yes, I was yelling at the TV "shows how much a back knows about scrums".

    Wallabies Watch

Suggest you watch TPN scrummage more closely - he has some big technical deficiencies as a scrummager. The biggest issue is the fact that he loses his bind on his props nearly every scrum. The hooker needs to be the glue at the front of the scrum and he consistently fails in this role.
