Evolution at Green and Gold Rugby - PLEASE READ

The idea with the Suggested Threads area is that the mods move threads from there to the main forum if we think it deserves the exposure. Sometimes we're a little slow in doing that but I just moved your Nicknames thread over to the main forum so it should now get the exposure. We don't move...

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Both camps have been involved in a PR skirmish today regarding the number of penalties they give away and the need for the other team to be watched closely on Saturday night - here's my article with the details http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/reds-and-brumbies-skirmishes-before-the-battle/

Law Discussion - Legality of the 'Gator Roll'

Completely illegal - you can't attack the head and neck of a player like that. However, exactly the same move is used legally in rugby by wrapping your arms under the armpits of the player and then performing the roll.

    Reds v Brumbies - RD10 2013

Here's a link to my article looking at the set piece numbers for the season to date ahead of the crucial set piece battle on Saturday night http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/set-piece-battle-crucial-in-reds-and_brumbies-clash/

    April Wallaby 30 Man Squad

Interesting stats from last weekend with all the talk about the importance of defence for a #10 and defending in the line or not. To'omua defended in the front line v Highlanders and made 7 tackles whilst missing 1. Cooper didn't defend in the front line v Chiefs and made 7 tackles whilst...

    Rugby - not set pieces

But if the opposition aren't ready for it and you are, you'll most likely catch their front row out. I agree the option for which side to feed would reset each scrum - I think the point is that you can't line up on the loosehead side and then switch to the tighthead side once the opposition...

Which Referee Is Awarding Most Penalties In Super Rugby?

I think the refereeing quality in 2013 Super Rugby has been good - the referees are never going to get it 100% right - that is not a realistic expectation. Steve Walsh's performance this afternoon in the Chiefs v Reds game was very good.

No wonder then that I warned readers in advance to forget what you think.

    Brumbies v. Highlanders Super Rugby R9 2013

In the commentary Justin Marshall said he'd spoken to Smith at the hotel today and he had confirmed that he was definitely not available for the Wallabies and was going to return to Japan as originally planned.

    Rugby - not set pieces

Correct, the halfback can feed from either side but once they've lined up on one side, they can't change to the other side.

Which Referee Is Awarding Most Penalties In Super Rugby?

James Leckie may have only had two matches but so have others on the list so his numbers are relevant. In terms of the number of penalties related to the number of tries scored in a match the data is as follows (I've only considered instances where the number of penalties has occurred in at...

    Qld Premier Rugby 2013

Hopefully Wests can bounce back this week against Norths. Don't forget that we got beaten 60-19 by Brothers in round 2 last year and bounced back reasonably well. The club has a better squad this year than last year (apart from Dan Linde who leaves a massive hole) so hopefully the boys can...

Which Referee Is Awarding Most Penalties In Super Rugby?

I wasn't actually trying to draw any wider conclusion apart from finding out who was awarding / conceding the most penalties. However the question of tries scored relative to penalties in matches is interesting. I'll see what I can extract from the data.

Which Referee Is Awarding Most Penalties In Super Rugby?

It's not Steve Walsh and it's not Jonathan Kaplan. It's James Leckie! I've published the full list here http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/how-many-penalties-can-steve-walsh-find-in-a-match/ The referee awarding the least number of penalties is Glen Jackson. Craig Joubert and Chris Pollock are...

Can someone give us a bit of information about Jordan Smiler?

    Wallabies Watch

Folau's positioning was not a problem in any of the tries. 1st try - came from a kick by Canes that they recovered - Folau was one of the players trying to catch the ball on the near side of the field - when it was moved immediately to the far side of the field he was caught on the near side -...
