Queensland Reds 2025

Hell yeah! Les Kiss spoke a bit about exploring these longer contracts as a way to retain talent earlier this week and I'm really happy to see it first up for Harry. Stoked he'll be in red (and gold) for a fair bit longer.

As long as the long term deals are for our elite or marquee players, I’m all for it.

Teams can get royally fucked over in long term situations, imagine offering Issac Henry a 5 year deal.

Also, what a sliding doors moment for Wilson in terms of his future. He was pretty much ready to walk away from Oz rugby a few years ago after missing out on Wallabies squads. He put the work in, made himself a key member of JS squad and now he’s essentially going to play his prime footy for the Reds/Wallabies.

Another year of profit for the QRU
Only ebitda profit though. A net loss though they may be the only organisation ever to have an actual argument for ignoring net results with that huge depreciation.

Apologies if this question has already been asked & answered on this thread.
Do we envisage that the Reds side to play the Lions on 2 July will include the Reds’ Wallabies (i.e. full strength Reds)? Or will the Wallabies be in camp/cocooned for national duty?

Wallabies are playing Fiji on 6 July, so no chance of the first teamers. Maybe some chance of squadies but probably not many

Anyone can get injured at any time.

Paisami referred to the judiciary lotto for that tackles in the corner
Super Rugby doing a much better job of explaining this sort of stuff this year

50/50 if he's let off for a drop in height, or found guilty.

If found guilty he'll get six weeks mitigated down to a three week suspension, with another week off for tackle school. - so either back next week or back for the Tahs game

In the moment it looked like it was absolutely worthy of a yellow going on what has been getting called. I can hear hear the he was wrapping as his arm moves up after the player has hit the floor from the shoulder.

Would have seen his night end which would have been interesting. We still doing the 20min red thing? Does it apply to dual yellows as well? I never know, they always decide to tweak these ones.

Initial 6 feels too much and and should be a 2 flat. Tackle school is such a wank

This one is certainly attracting some discussion.

On one hand there's the people arguing that what else was he meant to do? Let the player score a try?

My response is largely yes, Paisami can't realistically make a legal tackle that will prevent the try because in order to do so he needs to be between the player and the try line. He should either tackle the player legally around the waist knowing that momentum will carry him across the line for a try or accept that what he's doing is very likely to be a yellow/red card offence.

In my view it should have been a (second) yellow card and a penalty try.

I can sympathise with Hunter. I reckon almost every player would have done the same thing when defending at that angle and speed but the defender still has responsibility to play and accept the rules. What's he meant to do isn't an excuse...

The attack beat the defence (it didn't in this instance at the time but if he gets suspended it in essence did)

Thinking about it, I wish there was a Rugby Incident type category which players might get 1 week and a fine. In a shorter comp comparable to some others it sucks to miss a month of footy. Things that aren't malicious or against the spirit of the game and most Rugby people go ah yeah that happens. You will pay a penalty but not that off a real cheap shot.
