Wallabies 2025

I'm by no means a soccer fan but does Australia really play any meaningful matches outside the world cup and its qualifiers? I feel like rugby tests have so much more importance.

Yeah I know, I'm just saying he might not be clear to play straight away.
It's a 1 year (or technically 9 month) contract and the season starts next weekend - there's not much time for him to wait around.

I was talking about coming in for the EOYT though, I don't think there's much capacity for him to come into the wallabies setup before then, he'll want to put in some initial time with Perpignan and get his head back in the game.

Asia Cup is the closest we have to the Euro's which is a 4 year competition run.

Socceroos played 16 games last year.

1 friendly, 5 Asia Cup, and 10 WC qualifiers

Willing to give the Kangaroos 5 years to learn technique and put on weight?

A scrum is a unique event in Rugby and doesn't really prove any toughness. Wallabies had a camp chair for a scrum for years but I don't think they're soft. I don't think same BOK pack wouldn't last a half of constantly doing shuttle runs backwards and making 30+ tackles.

If it kicked off in a bar I know which group I'd rather stand behind (and walk out the door)

I agree. Although I think if a Rugby side came and wanted Gordon and he was willing to walk away from the Titans I think they would take it. An instant cap spot and space.
Feels like league forwards struggle with the pace of the game too, often walking between tackles, sets, kicks etc. Definitely doesn't show on TV as the cameras are just following the ball, but probably much easier to take a break as the first three or four tackles of a set are pretty predictable, no wonder hookers wind up racking up close to 50 tackles.

Now that the Giteau law has been abandoned all OS clubs should know that we may call on Australian players during test windows. Simple as that. Of course it is good to build relationships with the clubs but ultimately we want access to our test players.
Argentina manage it very well, I imagine because the players are very keen to represent and they are clear about where they stand when signing contracts. Why should it be any different here?

Interesting

That is good to hear re pursuing more options in phase play and taking risks.

I thought Donaldson executed everything he attempted very well during the Lions series but he was very conservative in my view. He took the ball deeper to give himself more time. It was my same impression for the Force which is why I felt he was better suited at fullback.

On the other hand Lynagh and JOC (James O'Connor) have been flatter, more erratic but also more enterprising and it has seemed to work in their favour in the 10 selection race in squad.

He has better size, speed and depth on kick than anyone else we have so if he starts to embody that more creative role he could go far as a test fly half. I hope he takes it into super but I wouldn’t want him changing his style if an injury occurs this test season and he’s thrusted in.

Am I missing something here? Is one of these in a different time zone, perhaps?

How classy from Donaldson. Could have talked himself up but spoke positively about team mates he is competing with for the same position.

Hopefully he gets a chance for someone to back him like Joe has with Tom and Noah.
Yes RR, he spoke well and very positively. The Wallabies are in a good place thanks to Joe. I've always thought Ben has shown more skill than the others but I guess not consistently enough in the coaches eyes to be given a starting gig for an extended time. I'm sure his time will come.
