Brumbies 2025

Its really quite a sad situation. The Brumbies are a good team and deserve better. I feel they have engaged the community, there are plenty of fan days and open trainings. They always have CBR schoolboys in the side and genuinely develop their own playersThey even have genuine Brumbies playing JID Cup ffs. The idea that they have neglected the community is simply not true for mine.

The Raiders are good at picking the low hanging fruit. Getting some social relevance with gimmicks like the Viking clap and all the ‘up the milk’ stuff is effective enough to get a chronicly mediocre team a strong fan base.

For those that can, I guess all we can do is keep getting out to Bruce!

Also, I was happy when I saw Rugby ads during the NRL Vegas openers but now all I get while watching Rugby are Craig Bellamy Documentary ads on Stan which is a great ad for NRL. It does look pretty good tbh.
To each their own. The only thing relating to the Storm I’d find worse than listening to Craig Bellamy moaning about how unfair the Storm were treating when they got caught cheating on the salary cap and/or when they have on numerous occasions trained players in tactics which have disregarded player safety would be a doco which ignores these parts of the Storms history. Could be just me though I guess.

Agree it's the last thing I wanna watch..

There's a thesis to be written on how they burned the goodwill towards the team that existed when the golden generation started to leave in the mid 2000s. In short I think they got a bit complacent (expecting that Canberra would always support them) and took their dominance over the Raiders as a given. People pretend a new stadium in the city would help but that's BS, the local public servants have voted with their feet and it would take a huge hiccup from the Raiders to turn the tide.
I think this is closer to the truth. I think people got sick of the power games and BS that went with the team. From property to boardroom issues, it has been stipped of so much. The "clique" running it have done it no favours.

But it's also become a victim of its own arrogance and lack of commercial ability. It's burnt sponsors and even simple things like having preseason games out of Canberra then during business hours at a private school- no way you will ever get new supporters let alone keep in touch with your local support base doing such stupid things. But they seem not to either get it or care. I think it's just the insular thinking that is inherent in Union. It now just chasing any quick dollars to keep the the dying dream on life support a bit longer. Crowds and entertainment are an afterthought. Sponsors don't care as nobody is watching.

Add on to that they are simple not inspiring nor exciting anymore. Burnie just brings the same-same mediocrity. Where is the variety in coaching or game play? We always seem to recycle past players and and make them coach and expect to get results. Frustratingly they always seem full of potential yet never good enough. Always a should of / could of with the Brumbies of late. They simply have very little appeal. Even their own faithful are slowly dropping off.

But it's not all the Brumbies. It's the shite flash-in-the pan competition that's run poorly. Which ever idiot that thinks that 7 home games will generate a supporter base for a team each year, let alone support that a code needs to take a hard look in the mirror.

I Think that is all fair enough for the probably 10 or so years prior to 2017 or 18, with the administration around the time of the move to UC being particularly complicit. However I do think theyve made more of an effort off field (not just private schools either) recently and the criticism of their style frustrates me.

While they definitely exit their half in a very structured manner their attack has improved year on year. Even with Valetini, who has been overused massively in recent years, out at the beginning of the season our backs were creating opportunities and scoring some great tries. I think they are good to watch as anyone in the comp when it comes together for them (though when they're off it's dire, unlike the reds for instance who are still watchable when they go to shit).

Fuck me Doran is a terrible journalist…
If he was just a bottom feeding gossip columnist you could nearly accept it, even though Payten and the other real journos actually break more stories, but then you throw his embarrassing analysis into the mix and it is truly hard work.

Well surely either the tahs or Brumbies (and RA) are throwing money at Will Harrison to come back. He would be great in either program.

Speaking of terrible journalism at The Roar... this is such a tediously small thing but it's in the manner that it's being misrepresented that boils my blood...

Harry Jones penned this in his latest random thoughts that he gets paid for piece:

So who are the up-and-coming heavy carry men? Tom Hooper leads all Aussies with 75 carries but he is woeful at gainline (38%, the same as prop Ala'alatoa), a trait he had in 2023. He still needs to learn a shape in contact which cuts down on the forces chopping him, and find acceleration into the tackle.

Blah blah blah...

Langi Gleeson has been far more impressive in the carry: he is 64% gainline over 74 runs with ball in hand, most of which have ended in heavy tackles as he takes on the duty of primary (often only) big baller. Surely he is the kind of robust presence for a Lions battle, but he was already in the mix for the first 23.

But it turns out he was reading from the wrong column in the Opta stats and Hooper's "gainline" percentage... the number that he has based his entire opinion of him on... is actually 67% which is higher than Gleeson and other notable Australian backrowers.

I called him out on it and he admitted he was wrong, but the article is unchanged.

Getting it wrong is one thing, but then admitting you got it wrong and not correcting the error... get fucked you lazy excuse for a journalist.

He's a flog, absolutely in love with the sound of his own voice. That stat did look odd too for anyone that's actually watched the brums play this year.

Yeah the eye tells you that Hooper is carrying very well this year. He didn’t even need to look at the stats to know that.

I believe until the end of this year... hopefully can lock him in as well.
I reckon he might have strong interest from NSW and DM wanting him. Porecki not getting younger and physically seems off a bit, Heaven gone and Mahe and Dobbins are steady bench players at best.

Brums to get Edmed. Seems banished now by the Tahs. Lining up for Eastwood this week
