Why is Marto employed as a commentator?

I don't think it has anything at all to do with knocks on the head - I think it is something else entirely, and whilst the laws of slander forbid me, I could otherwise suggest it has to do with self-absorption, a delusional belief in his own sense of houmour, self-enamour, and a head placed in physiologically difficult locations.

Have a look back at the 1989 Lions and "that" pass - see if you don't believe that Martin Called for That Pass, as he ran around behind Campesie, and then overran him (regardless of whether Campesie should have thrown it, or not) Otherwise, what did he think he was doing, if Campo was going to kick it? - he was well-inside Campo, and could have followed the kick through from where he was.

I suspect Campo has covered his arse for the past 26 years on that one.

I saw an interview a few years ago where Marto said he called for the ball. In any event Marto should have been in position to take the pass for the conservative kick in any event as Evans was closing fast.

You should try listening to him on the Radio here in Brisbane, mind you basically all radio station morning crews in Brisbane are shit.

Fair enough - i never heard him say that - but he must have said it quietly - in proportion to the way Campese has been pilloried over the years... to my eyes, it looks like Campo was passing it to a FB he expected to be ready to kick it into touch...

It was a poor pass. but it was definitely a pop ball to somebody who was looping. Marto was just a bit wider than the pass, no doubt he was concerned about beating Evans who was an extremely good winger and a great defender.

'did not have to beat him... simply had to kick, or run the ball into touch in order to regather the troops... the Lions were at our line - there were few options.

Anyhow, If I were Martin, I would have many Long Nights of the Soul before I elected to make a living, commenting on other players decisions and ability... this being my point - (not the intracacies of the incident).

Fox Sports has the Sky commentary team on 505 or 506, cannot remember exactly which, but just have a look, it is there somewhere.

Only just got to watch Tahs v Lions.
Horan's discussion of the intercept that led to the Lions try suggests that he thought that offside line for a ruck was your opponent's hind most foot!!

Marto and Breenan Cannon are terrible I personally find Clarkie boring. Keep Kafe, sean maloney and add Adam Frier.

New alternative commentary for those truly sick of Marto - Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson calling the matches live for Samsung on their new Google+ and iPhone app. http://www.samsungstadium.com.au

Doubtful they'll be any less informed than Marto and probably a lot funnier.

This is a great move. I'm lamenting that I have no phone that has internet on it though :(

Found these, Halfpenny will be referred to as the "Welsh Wizard" I believe.

Context: just watched the end of the 1989 3rd test

Impressions: That pass was about (no time clock or anything) 5 minutes into the second half (always assumed it was the last 5) and Campos performance from then on was normal, Marto got run over at least once. And Campo had every chance to ground it for a 22 kick, but it looked like Marto called for it but was covered and Campo shouldn't of passed it but taken it on himself ...

Wondering: if the pub I'm going to tonight can change the coverage to FTA so I (we) can listen to Buddha - GO YOU GOOD THINGS
