Maybe he only trained with them - there was an internal trial at school so maybe he was not available.
Big unit.
I see Serhon getting in some early matches.

I watched last weeks game and like MACCA thought easts showed the want, more than the wicks, but in saying that, there were some shining lights. A solid front row, loss of a jumper put them behind, but they balanced well. Young Koutsoukis? has his scrum working well and I think that this was a good wake up call to some of the men. 3 of them could walk off with heads up.

FYI HJ

Harry Jones came off the bench to play in 1st Grade for the Rats last week just as Andrew Kellaway did for Randwick.

He didn't score a try as AK (Andrew Kellaway) did but he kicked a few conversions.

It is good to see Harry and a couple of the Barker boys staying local.

I saw that he was listed for the Rats 1's. How did he go with the big boys? IMHO he can be a little vulnerable on defence. I hope he has been working on this aspect of his game in the off season.

While Harry came off the bench for the 1s, he was listed as run on for the 2's. I assume that he had already had a full game when he came on for the 1's.

Kellaway was a fresh reserve for the Wicks 1's.

Harry played in the Twos; I didn't see him play but he had a dirty jersey on when I saw him as I arrived just at the end of the Twos game.

I took the question to be more about the rationale, rather than the definition,Big Bum.

Correct, I'm surprised that is allowed before the finals, I'm sure the opposition would have something to say.

edit; I've just read the full explanation on the colts thread, don't bother replying.

Y

Usual tragedy with so many Gordon juniors ending up at Wicks. The novelty of driving to Coogee in peak hour 2x weekly must get thin.

Rocky Elsom (76)
Lachlan CANNELL has popped up at Eastwood in the Round 2 Colts 1 Team Sheets.
Another former Gordon junior commuting to training (probably in the peak with the rest of the M2 or M4 lemmings).

Now I see.
Not that anyone but the rusted on are interested but the Grammar 8 has been playing at Randwick colts I hear

Tobias RUDOLF (Scots College - Colts 1 Round 1) and Matt SERHON (New - Colts 3 Round 2) have also popped up in the Randwick Colts lists.
Both were local juniors, so the only surprise is the decision that Colts seems to have offered something that their respective School Pre-Season did not.

Serhon has NSW Schoolboy on his CV, but can only make it to Wicks Colts 3 behind NSW U20 Rep (also ex NEW) Vea in the I's, and Katsouskis (Aust A - Wav) in the II's.

Rudolf has only represented SJRU U16 but the Green Machine must have big plans for him with a start in Colts 1 while still at School. Expect him to be in NSW or Combined States this year.

This has very interesting medium term connotations: blokes from these schools with these credentials suggests the clubs could beckoning.
For a bloke like Serhon I would see it working this way: there's no serious GPS rugby until terms 2, because of athletics - which takes out the first 2 weekends of the new term so he's got maybe the first 6-8 weeks in colts of the colts season, throw in a couple of weeks here and there for long weekends etc and he's probably qualified for the semis.
I thought he rowed though.

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
Colts 3 has 2 byes in it (Gordon/Penrith).
This should make 4 "free" passes to go towards qualification for the Semis.

When does AAGPS rugby season proper run from and to?

SRU round 7 is 10 May.
Most of July Holidays (2 colts rounds) will be out due to National Schoolboys.
There is a Colts round on the June Long Weekend.

SRU finals start 2 August.

Should be relatively simple to run the numbers game to qualify for Colts finals.

Once the schools comps start the individual schools will prevent any 1st and 2nd XV player from playing any colts football. Actually it may even be when trials start.

Hugh Jarse

Rocky Elsom (76)
Yep. Hard to be in two places at once.

Colts play Saturdays. Colts 1 Kick off is around 3:15 pm, same time as most 1st XV games.

Most kids will choose 1st XV over moonlighting, even before the schools "ban" it.

Kids moonlighting for Colts in the pre-season is often a good indicator of where they will show up the following year.

It can also achieve a 1 point "loyalty" deduction off their player points score if they can somehow wangle a "season" (defined as 8 games) with the club. The 2 Byes in 3rds colts plus a washout game or two help make it easier to qualify for 8 games.

AMENDED:
The speculation is over for most with the first round of Sydney Colts and Grade footy last weekend.

The 2013 NSW I and NSW II and Combined States players from NSW player roll, along with where they were listed as playing in round 1.

Combined States
Ed CRAIG Epping BHS, CHS, CS. 2014: Eastwood, Colts 2 Bench

Hugh, one of my snouts tells me Ed Craig played all pre-season games at hooker for Eastwood colts 1st grade, and was selected and listed there for round 1, but they forgot he was 17 and didn't get the dispensation forms for playing in the front row into head office in time. So, he had to stand down on Saturday morning and played his second position #6 off the bench for 2s and then 1s. Following an injury at training, he's out for 2 weeks, but should end up back there in a week or two. (I also hear front row dispensation has now come through).
