Sponsors pay for the jersey number and not the players themselves, some players like Hodgson would have attracts greater interest then the less marketable players on the bench. RugbyWA never released the figures for what each sponsorship earned.

Can't argue with you there Reg, but which Super Rugby team has been well run? The Reds enjoy signing coaches & players to contracts & then deciding they were not wanted in the first place. I believe the Brumbies have sold their assets and may end up shaking tins on street corners in coming seasons to balance the books. The Rebels are a financial black hole & probably always will be. Not sure whats going on at the Tahs, maybe they are the example of a well run sporting team?

This is the issue that just seems to be totally ignored by everybody. Where was Twiggy when he was really needed?

This viewpoint has been refuted so often it's hardly worth further comment. True to form W - never letting facts get in the way of an opportunity to bash the Western Force or rugby in WA. Suggest you have a closer look in the backyards of your own allegiances..

The sponsorship was for the jersey number for the whole Super Rugby season. If I recall correctly the individual sponsorship raised about $650k/season compared to the previous $1M/season from Emirates. In addition FMG sponsored whatever jersey Matt Hodgson wore in recognition of his role as a Health & wellness advisor to FMG. The WA Road Safety sponsorship was $1.5M per season. The individual sponsorship also continues in many instances.

Out of interest, how does a jersey sponsor for one or a couple of players work (as opposed to the whole team)? Does that money go to the Organisation, or to the player? I've always meant to ask.

When the Force lost the Emirates sponsorship which was worth around 1mill per season they were not being able to obtain a new major sponsor. The decision was made to sell each of the starting team jerseys to individual company's at a cost of $50,000 a pop which resulted in $750,000 worth of sponsorship. The idea was to then sell the reserve jerseys at $25k each to cover the short fall. The uptake of the reserve jerseys wasn't great so they put the state gov logo on the front to recognise them for the money received for the rugby center and the NIB upgrades. Then in 2017 the received State Gov sponsorship from the Road Safety commission worth 1.5mil a year the most for any club in Australia.

I'm interested RR. Which Australian Super Rugby franchise HASN'T shown some levels of diabolical administration over the relatively short life of Super Rugby? (Especially in player and coach selection and management) The WF suffered greatly due to the FirePower fiasco but their financial situation was also impacted in that they never received the benefits poured upon the Rebels. Recently the WF was severely impact by the downturn of the Mining Industry (the deepest in 40 years) and the loss of major sponsorship. Even the Waratahs which have always benefited from ARU largesse needed to be rescued.

The topic started with a need to consider the State RUs along with the ARU as the ARU are enabled by the States. WA hardly have any positive influence over ARU actions any more. They can be comfortably be left out of that particular discussion. Want to change the ARU? Start with the incompetent administration at NSW, Qld, ACT and Vic. It is, I think, a reasonable contribution.

Dare I say it, he was also one of the architects in setting it up. I don't know the full details, but I think people need to know this; because I keep hearing that he didn't support the game over here until the last minute; which is really not true.

What on earth makes you think that? RWA primary concern is strength at the grass roots of the sport which they believe requires a pathway for rugby players through to professional level which in turn is best addressed with a professional team in Perth. The Rebels scenario paints a scene that ARU is happy to accept as justifying a professional team. This would have some influence on how you push the case.

Bwahahahahaha .... The sad sad situation that the Tahs are the best example that Australian Rugby has of a well run team. It is hard to deny but #@&$ me

It’s just a few people on this forum it’s not indicative of the wider population. But shouldn’t be surprised given that the people who continue to claim that Twiggy provided nothing are the same ones who believe the current ARU board are a functional group of people.
