I am hearing rumblings that the domestic pro comp not going ahead but rather will be club rugby instead from July - at least that is what seems to be inferred from some reports

It’s not a bad way to ease the players back into it but it would be necessary for a couple of rep fixtures prior to the Bledisloe to see where everyone is at, could just be Probables v Possibles. Or just a 4 way round robin with the franchises, and select 2 teams after that. E.g A front row, B second row, A back row, B halves, A centres, B back row, and the reverse for the other side.

Piftzy, today it is beyond difficult, but 3 to 4 years ago it was light years more easy and we had a Super Rugby competition with funding to prepare for a new competition.

Piece of piss.

The franchise domestic comp is 99.9% chance of what the primary offering will be. Perhaps a few weeks where players are offered to clubs but it’s almost no chance of been the only offering. Simply on the basis one generates money and the other doesn’t, looking at RAs and the states financial issues it’s an obvious choice.

Super Rugby Aotearoa announced. 5 NZ Super teams playing H&A over 10 weeks. All games at closed stadiums. Start date TBA but will be 3 to 4 weeks after NZ moves to Alert Level 2 (expected Monday).

Slight correction: Cabinet may announce we're going to Level 2 on Monday but there will be at least a 48-hour lead time & listening to the idiot Jacinda (see Covid-19 Stuff thread to see what I mean by that) it might be more a case of Level 2.5-4-3-2-1-0 as industries and/ or regions are brought back sequentially rather than all in one hit. Sport will be mid-range in that scenario I'd think.

And Australia is playing boardroom musical chairs instead of organising our Aus only mini comp for this year.

It all has my pretty close to giving up on the game here. The Kiwi's have got there comp sorted and we should have by this point as well. But no. Same old bullshit and self interest.

Regarding Super Rugby. NZ are doing their mini comp and I'm hoping it clears the two for a rethink on the structure toward a two phased set up. First a 10 week domestic phase and then another 10 week phase with 3x5 pools.

Could be cash issues preventing play if Foxtel doesn't want (and nor does anyone else) to pay for an Aus comp this year.

Foxtel are screaming for live sporting content to justify their high costs and avoid insolvency, if RA can produce games Foxtel will pay.

How much, though, I guess that is the nub of the matter.

yes that is the crux of the issue, there is no doubting they want live content, but how much they can afford to pay versus what the producer expects them to pay is a different matter entirely.

There is bugger all Covid-19 in Samoa/Fiji and also plenty of players with island heritage now stuck in Aus since the overseas comps are shut down (like Samu Kerevi and Ben Teo) so it would be great to somehow pull together a 6th "Pacific Allstars" team for our Aussie comp and get on with it.

Ask World Rugby for a few $$ to get the Pacific team together and whack them up in Townsville since that city is also Covid free now. Maybe put the whole comp up there in the one spot but there'd be a bit of time of work that out if nothing can startagain until July.

Draw something like this:

Or Fiji and a Pacific All-Stars team comprised of Samoan and Tongan players. Home and away. Twelve games a piece. Nice and solid.

Keveri, Cooper and others that are back in Aus from Japan could bolster the Sunwolves until their Top League goes back. Just a pipe dream as I'm sure their companies wouldn't like it. Would make for a quality team!
