A substantial portion of all the crowds are members. If you flip it around and have very few home games late in the season, does everyone whose team isn't in contention disengage from the competition altogether?

The whinging would be just as loud if the bulk of the home games were early in the season and then the team disappeared to South Africa, had byes and the June break and were playing 2 home games in 10 weeks.

The June break is an inherent problem but also unavoidable currently. It's good that is changing.

Personally I much prefer to have 6 of the 8 home games for the Tahs from mid-April to July. Each to their own though I guess.

BH, it's fine for the rusted on. If you're looking to expand and to garner better coverage, it needs some consistency at home in the building phase of the season.

But I'm happy as is boringly usual, for you to differ.

I could be wrong but I thought that across most of the winter sports and particularly NRL, crowds tend to be low in the first few weeks because only the rusted on fans are attending.

Clearly if you lose your first five games it becomes very hard to get any new fans on board, but the flipside is if you're going well there's then a story to sell to attract fans to attend.

I don't know there is any evidence to suggest that a couple of home games in the first month drives higher overall interest.

BH, I don't think it's about a couple of home games early. Not just that anyway. The fans are pumped, or enthused, they joined didn't they. Now they're hungry for input. What's happening?!

Well nothing the guys are touring. And predictably, very predictably, the results return from NZ and RSA statistically lower than at home. Damp squid, there's always next year.

OR

Some consistency early with home games, maybe a focus on Aus games, points building, we can get to the game. Now I'm hooked let's watch that 3:00am start in Bloem.

Only the rusted on turn up as things head south after constant interruption and it's not looking good. Overcome low numbers up front with decent marketing. Won't help at the end.

Of course the best remedy is a winning team.

Not expecting much sympathy but in Weeks 7 & 8 my lot have got Lions in Jo'burg followed by Jaguares in BA. They do get a bye in Week 9, tho.

WoB honest, who builds these draws? I wouldn't even know where to start booking flights. One thing for sure there will be no options and no way of easing the travel and recovery.

Reds play two games at home, then a 5 week gap till their next home game..

But apparently, TOCC it's OK as everyone jumps on board at the end of the season. Sheesh. You couldn't make stuff like this up.

At any rate, my negativity to the ARU also means negativity to NSWRU and QRU. Reap what you have sown, guys.

Welcome to Western Force World from 2017. Reds at Home in Round 2 and then the next home game was the Kings in Round 7 followed by a Bye in Round 8. And people wonder why the WF struggled to hold crowd numbers. However, I think it was still better than 2016 when the WF, over the season start had to play 3 teams in NZ followed by the Crusaders at home. Another great way to kill momentum. Thankfully not our problem any more. They tell me that the IPRC will be each team playing each other twice - Home & Away. Bring it on!!

The current ARU, Super Rugby social media plugs promoting the draw for 2018 are just infuriating. Seeing the Sunwolves plonked into the East Australian conference is just another slap in the face to the rugby public of Western Australia.

Mods what the fuck have you done to the site I just spend over an hour breaking down each round between Australian sides V Australian sides and a crowd functional calculation.

It just puts everything together . I then tried to simply put in characters and that went pear shaped too.

If I like something I have to enter it twice with my password.

You guys been to the ARU school of management and communication.

Good to hear, sorry Half, not many complaints, I was starting to think I was the only one with no improvement and it was because I have stopped cookies etc. Are we being punished for complaining about the auto ads you had on the site before?

Governance shift at the Sunwolves, JFRU no longer In control, taken over by Japan Super Rugby Association, which I believe has significant SANZAAR influence

BH, the problem is not so much when the home games are played, but the fact that there are more non-derby games this year compared to last when the hoopla about the new 15 team competition would have us believe there will be fewer. The number of derbies (Aus v Aus) remains the same at 6 for each Aus team giving a total of 12 games in the conference when last year there was a total of 15 derby games in the conference. Then there is an extra game per team against non-Aus sides, so another 4 games total in the conference. Where does this new competition schedule offer a better deal for the Aus sides over the cluster-fuck that was last year, regardless of when the games are played?
