I dont even understand what you are trying to say? That a commercially viable comp can be built out of such a lopsided set of teams?

Of course it can't. And you can slag on me all you like. No ones going to tune in and watch Aussies get white washed every week. We already know this from past years.

As soon as we stopped playing you interest sky-rocketed.

I actually am not concerned about where we are heading as Hamish making the right noises about keeping options open.

I am not anti TT, but sure have concerns but not in the all in Domestic comp camp but lets have both camp. There are those that can get all uppity if one dares to criticise TT because they are part of the old school that everything about super rugby was great but let them have their time in the sun. But got 2 really close games in TT over the weekend so prepared to let it see what unfolds as after seeing over 100 points put on two oz sides was concerned so at least hopeful can get more close games. There are ways to fix things if there is a will and I have trust in Hamish and RA to make the right decisions, and not leave it to the dinosaurs on here who think that nothing should ever change. They are probably the same donkeys bleating that we should keep us playing South African sides at 2am in the morning because just because they watch it it must be great.

Funny but unlike you who have apparently missed most of the last 20 years, I have been going to Suncorp for years and sitting in great crowds, and of course noone like you will tune in and watch their teams struggle, but plenty do and will.
I also think you underestimate how much difference Stan/9 have made to viewing because they promote the game.
But it's alright. you just sit there and moan. Do you stop going to support your club when they going through hard times?
Look you and I are different types obviously, I follow rugby, and my teams regardless of their results and you like to watch winners, you not alone and that's ok. But if you want a 5 team comp and play same teams 3-4 times that great, I hope you find a sport that will survive with that.
Tell the 13000 or whatever at Perth last night they were idiots enjoying the game, and seems the crowd at Rebels was as big as any I noticed there this year.
By the way, I not arguing this just from kiwi side, there are some here wouldn't care if they never saw an Australian super team too, I say the same to them , anyone who is dumb enough to think that either NZ or Aus can survive in rugby without each other is living in drean world.

I'm on the side of having both but run separately. Super Rugby Au with the Drua and then a TT/AP competition after in the form of a Champions League set up. Could even look to do something with Japan. May be MLR and SLAR in the future. As for the weekend. I take encouragement from the results. That being the overall standard of Super Rugby Au and Super Rugby Ao aren't as vastly different as many suspect. And I suspect the Australian teams having now have their marker in which to improve on. Which I think they will.

I dont, i want a 10 team domestic comp. I get the through thick and thin shit, but systemic imbalance is not sustainable. No matter how much you demand fans support their team even if they get flogged each week.

Tell me, how 'great' were those suncorp crowds prior to this season? 25% capacity? Less probably.

I hate this old school 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps' bullshit that just ignores the reality of the situation.

At this point, anyone that's arguing for a solely TT comp being the best thing for Aus rugby is either delusionally out of touch, trying to sell you something, or both.

Can tell you the last few yaers were crap crowds, but can also tell you that Suncorp crowds were pretty good I thought up until a few years back.
I would agree about a 10 team comp would be great, just like something like shall we call it NRC/ a good number of Aus teams with drua, shit that was the saviour of Aus rugby wan't it? I used to to those games too, and most of them had not even a 10th of Suncorp crowds. That would still be best a 10 team NRC tyep comp, and maybe tied in with super, but has been tried nad we don't seem to have a lot of people who want it actually going to games, and RA needs to make money to survive.

Mate what are you talking about? The NRC wasn't a professional competition, it was a development league and was promoted as such. Of course it wasn't going to get crowds.

As we saw with Super Au, there's plenty of appetite for a solely Australian competition, and opportunity to make it commercially viable.

And of course Super Au wouldn't stay with 5 teams. They would look to expand. How would they do that? The same way just about every sporting competition on the planet does, by allowing private investors to set up teams with a franchising fee.

Not an NRC like competition. As the NRC was never intended to be a professional competition nor was it ever marketed as such. Nor do I think we need 10 teams. At least not immediately. I'd settle for 8.

I’m firmly in the multiple comps camp. It’s makes the most sense. There is nothing wrong with a 5 team comp if you’re playing 5-6 other teams in another comp throughout the year.

No on the MLR. Their zone is in the americas. We should all be wise enough now to realize how bad and unsustainable forcing viewing times in the modern day just doesn’t work. 9am Sunday might seem like a solid time slot for the hardcore fan, but marketing wise it fails the test on building viewing habits of viewers.

Perhaps in a club World Cup we can occasionally meet up.

For me it’s Asia and the Pacific the rest can sort their own shit out

I can understand 8 teams would be ok,actually good size, now all that's needed is money to pay for it. I also think 8 is good number for domestic comp. But 8 teams is getting similar to NRC anyway. I assuming a west sydney and another Qld team would be the go? Ok let's add drua? So RA which is not far off being broke is going to pay for these teams how?
It's great to have these ideas, but surely we need details of how it will work, I know we talk PE etc, but where are the companies/individuals who want to throw in money to start and support teams?

I think we need to assess the effectiveness of Super Rugby-TT at the end of these five rounds. I enjoyed last night's Force game immensely, but think that the current format of SRAU + TT is the way to go, but let's get the Drua in the SRAU comp. They now have a bit of history with us and I think their style of footy would light the joint up. The Pasifika team in Super Rugby-Ao seems the obvious choice too.

I am in favour of something that just works...but yeh I think domestic and TT/AP competition seems to be best option and seems RA considering that option. Got basic domestic comp working to expand on/evolve, with the Drua added would be the ideal ST.

TT - yeh I think a few including me were nervous after Friday results but agree top sides may yet prove they could compete ok and agree at least marker to improve on I agree but will know more after this seasons TT comp finishes as I too was encouraged with results of Brumbies and Force games (Tahs not sure what to make of that game as leaked 64 points but also scored 48 points). I expect the TT may yet evolve as not completely sure can work in current format but if it does great. There are different options to address the imbalance and it is really about understanding each parties not negotiables to understand what options there are.

Considering Twiggy was able to get a line up of investors for his WS team, there's clearly market interest. We could even reach out to Twiggy himself (its very common for leagues in the early years of expansion to have owners with multiple teams eg. MLS).

Ok, well good luck, I hope it goes well. I will be most surprised if there is all these rich fellas around wanting to put millions into set up new teams, I thought I tried to look at positive side, but obviously you know a lot more than me.

Bin TT i reckon. Didnt watch last night because of the inevitable, and i wasnt wrong.

At least playing ourselves is enjoyable, which is what this shit is all about im pretty sure.

Don't think it should be binned D. I am not as invested in it as I am with SRAu, but I think it has a place.

To me, the SRAu is about the Australian Championship, and is the most important competition for our sides. The TT looks to me to be developing as the Wallaby trials. Those two roles were performed by the Super Rugby competition in past years leading many posters lamenting they didn't know what the real purpose of the competition was. Now we have two distinct competitions, each to perform one of those roles. I think it is worth persisting, but SRAu must always have precedence.

There you go BR - seems someone else on the open border policy as a solution for TT competition.

^ so you're advocating for a six-team SRAu (five Au plus Drua) & SRAo (five NZ plus Moana Pasifika which will be NZ-based for probably five years), followed by a Super Rugby Pacific (can't really call it T-T after Drua & MP (Moana Pasifika) come on board)? Wouldn't be my preference but I could live with it if that were to happen (which I doubt it will, 12-team single-round plus playoffs seems to be what the stakeholders incl broadcasters want).

That style of comp might sell internationally WOB, at least for a little while, but it will again see the fans leaving rugby in this country in droves.
