Where is JON hiding?

Man on the hill

...

Presently our CEO (JON) fulfils many of the PM roles above. We are lacking someone performing in the Governer General role.

Are you serious - JON is to Rugby what Malcolm Fraser & Sir John Kerr were to constitutional reform! He's not going to take heed of any "grandfatherly" advice type. He's been a crash or crash through type of guy since day 1. We all rejoiced in his first incarnation as he shook the house and got results, but for his second iteration, well...

TOCC, do you think Rugby needs a Governor General type person to complement the PM type role that JON as CEO is supposed to be doing? Chairman of the ARU Board Paul McLean is the most logical person to be in the GG role.

Isn't Michael Hawker the Chairman of the ARU? McLean was President of the ARU from 2004 to 2009, the President's largely a figurehead role.

No, i believe the ARU board and governing structure needs a complete restructure with independant commissioners appointed in place of the current ARU board.

You've done well stringing this one on for so long WJ, but even without the JO'N desk-cam - I now hear you swirling down the gurgler.

Do you think the Echo board, shareholders and associated parties have been fitting their working lives around JO'Ns coffee breaks and evenings? Just said "fuck working in the week" and manage it all in 2 days at JO'Ns over the weekend?

Funny

Considering that the resignations happened this week gone and now during the fallout period JON is overseas watching rugby and having meetings with the IRB, I think fact would point to ECHO at this present point in time having to work around JoN commitments.

I'm not sure what I'm stringing along. There is still zero proof that being on the echo board has impacted the ARU in any way.

The article you and kiap sight says he does long hours at the ARU, hardly damning is it?

If I'm heading down the gurgler, it must be a drain of fact leading to a pipe of non assumed discussion. I look forward to it.

That's because JON's Echo phonecalls and mail get sent to the ARU site, outta sight for his over-cite.

That's a letter, when did John open it, or did his secretary open it then put it on the pile for echo that John didn't touch til he completed his duties for the ARU?

Still zero proof of any impact to his hours or duties at the ARU. Just people putting the boot in. I hope whoever replaces JON doesn't have a family or any outside interests as apparantly 24/7 is the required hours.

That's just being melodramatic. Stick to being a naysayer.

Who's paying JON's secretary at St Leonards in any case? Is it the ARU?

You've convinced me WJ, I'm off to get a second job.

If you were to take a second job.. who is ultimately at blame... you for maximising your income, or your Boss for allowing you to take a second job?

I think this whole issues highlights the flaws at the ARU.. Who negotiated JON's contract and who agreed to allow him to take a second job like this?

Both.

If I'm top of an organisation and paid handsomely for it, surely I'm responsible for the results? If the results aren't good, then surely me looking to dedicate more of my time to outside interests isn't a smart move.

A CEO is not a 'regular employee' who should be lauded for gaming his employment contract. He's sure not remunerated that way.

Is it melodramatic? Isnt it what people are asking of him? With zero proof he has devoted one minute less than normal people have used terms like "missing at the wheel" "absent half the time" & "to busy to care" ?

Laying the facts down, according to this thread.

-JON has not broken his contract
-There is zero proof he has devoted less time to the ARU
-People blame his job at echo for a long list of things that happened before he had the job at echo.
-Gagger is getting a second job as a means of mocking my position on the topic as its simpler than admitting I may havea point.

Anything I've missed?

Where is JON?

At the moment I'd reckon that he's locked in a room blogging furiously under a number of pseudonyms about Alan Jones!

His at the IRB negotiating a better deal for the ARU, or as people call it "missing in action"

No, you're right - he should be congratulated for turning up

When did I say he should be congratulated. The man is doing his job and he is being hung and quartered for it. If you want to talk about why you think his decisions he makes for the game are wrong that's one thing and it's a worthwhile topic and discussion. But a thread based on him being absent from his job due to his other job (one that he is contractually able to have) with no basis of fact is completely silly.

No, the man is being criticised for not performing his job (see results) and yet taking another one.

The silly arguments are
  • that none of us has seen his daily diary,
  • or that Chairman of a failing company is the same as any NED,
  • or that "because my contract doesn't say no" it's a good idea to do it.
They're the ones that you're making.

Isn't it about accountability to someone though? A CEO is accountable to the Board and they should be holding him to the sword for the job he is/isn't doing.

Like Quade, JON isn't bigger than the game and his bosses should be making that known. But I suspect there hasn't been any serious breach of contract. There would be some pretty specific KPIs in that contract that the Board would have to enforce with him.

KPIs seem to be an elastic concept at the ARU with regard to certain roles. Allegedly.
