What Inside Backs Are Available for the Force

The Force have come into some money, and while I would like to keep it in house, we need another player capable of distributing the ball.

I am not convinced that a centre pairing of Sidey and Dellit will work long time, it will be too predictable. Especially with Cullet and Shep in the outside backs.

So who is available for next year - a wish list if you will, i doubt these guys will actually sign.

Nonu has been given the boot from the Canes and is tossing up whether he stays in NZ.

Dagg has indicated he wants out of Christchurch because of the earthquake - he is currently a fullback but I think has the game to be a great 12.

Who else?

Isn't Inman the starting 13? Can't remember if he's back from injury yet. Stannard's working well at 10. Ripia (spelling?) is there as well. The Force have a few hard running centres already (fairbanks, sidey, inman) they might do with someone as a second 5. Its not like they dont have depth, more they need some diversity in the playing style IMO

Inman is at the Rebels next year too.
Depth isnt the issue, its predictability. All the centres we have are the bash it up style (well, maybe not Fairbanks, but he isnt up to standard these days, and Ripia is an option, although he hasnt got the x factor I was after).

Dagg wouldn't give up his AB jersey to play with the Force- he is still young.

I think Nonu would be good to sound out, think it would take a shedload of cash though.

I think it's about showing faith in the players they've got. There's a lot more depth in the midfield than out-wide. Although Dellit and Sidey are very versatile and Shepard can play on the wing as well as fullback, none of these are ideal options for the 11/14 jumper.

9. Swanepoel/Turner
10. Stannard/Ripia
12-13. Fairbanks/Sidey/Dellit
11-14. Cummins
15. Shepard

The weaknesses in the force's roster next year are on the wings (and at prop).

Oh my God! I just saw in the JOC (James O'Connor) thread you said Smith was going too. Have the Force just been focused on trying to secure O'Conner and let their other started fall by the wayside? Inman isn't too surprising. He was in the year below me at Waverley then he left in year 10 or 11 to go to Riverview because he thought it'd help his rugby career more.

I'd say Dagg wouldnt come across because he is young and has a brilliant AB career in front of him. Who knows, they could be looking at someone like To'omua or Lealiafano. Brumbies seemed to have an abundance of playmakers this year.

Smith was limited to a two year contract anyway. He was confirmed to go very early in the season. You can't get too attached to foreign players.

Yeah good call Nelse, they could do with one of To'omua, Lealiifano or Coleman.

NextBigThing, while that backline is serviceable at Super level it isn't close to being finals-worthy. With JOC (James O'Connor) there you would have given them a chance, but without him you think a top 10 finish would be the best they could hope for.

I this Kyle Godwin bloke any good?

Would be great to have some more local produce in the team.

Fair call. I wasn't saying that was necessarily a finals worthy backline. I was more trying to show where the Force really need to focus their recruiting. They've got plenty of midfield players and playmakers. What they don't have is finishers out-wide. They've conclusively proven this year that even with one of the best playmakers in the comp, they can't score tries.

All 3 of them are committed to the Brumbies next year... and at this stage will be playing 3 different positions:

10. To'omua
12. Coleman
15. Lealiifano

So, it's unlikely they'll struggle for game time...

Coleman is probably the one out of those three who would be most likely in danger of missing on a starting position, but he's a local boy...

Good point NextBigThing. Maybe throw a dickload of cash at Digby Ioane? Although the last time he went to the Force didn't he have issues being away from his family?

David Smith has been a big success, do you try and find someone in his mould- ie. islander winger just below international level. Someone like Kade Poki, Julian Savea or Siale Piutau.

Or maybe Isa Nacewa?

Well To'omua and Lealiifano are signed for 2012, Coleman signed til 2013.

If I were the Force I’d be throwing everything at Pat McCabe to play 12 while you can, I don’t believe he has been resigned at this stage.

If McCabe isn't already signed on I'm pretty sure he's all but guaranteed staying with the Brumbies...
